slicing up a sample?

very new to the mpc, and from what ive read and seen in instructional youtube videos, after recording a sample you should have the option to slice it. I can't seem to find it anywhere after i take a sample. I want to assign the bits and parts of it to different pads but i really cant seem to find it. do i need to update my os ? i'm not really intrested in using the jj os yet but is that the only way?

step 1. Use the search feature or read the manual. (trust me) step 2 forget what you know about the AKAI os and just get the JJ os. These two pieces of advice will save the day!

after you've sampled whatever you wanted go to trim and from there you should be able to the slice option on the bottom of the screen.
