pad replace kit test?

hi freaks.

first of all i want to give my respect to this forum.
i am reading here since a couple of month and some of the topics
really helped me.

i am using mpc machines since 2000.
first i owned a 2k xl which i sold when the 1000 was available.

after experiencing the pad disaster i got an mpc 3000 which was
great in the studio but lacks mobility.

when i read about the new jjos on this forum i got back my 1k from the closet and loved the new os. so i decided to give it another try and asked my friend jake the rapper to get me a pad replace kit from the us.

so. here is my question: as i read in another thread from a guy from denmark, there might occure problems (blinking display, no reaction) when installing the new pads.

is there a possibility to test the new pads when purchasing them? my friend will buy them in a guitar center and when he gets back to berlin and they are not working that would be a complete mess as i am in a production period right now and already sold the 3k...

ahh. and btw. does anybody know, why this pad replace kit is not mentioned on the official akaiPro site. could it be, that these replace kits are stuff from somewhere in the middle of china, where i think these machines or parts of them are produced?

i know this from buying ipods in shangai. there is difference between buying official gear and gear that just "fell off" the production process.

i was the one who got a faulty pcb board with my padset.. but the guy from mpcstuff where i bought my pads from, sent me a new board immediately and it works great! so dont worry..

yeah. but my kit will be purchased at a guitar center somewhere in pheonix.
do you think mpcstuff will send me the pcb when i purchased the pads at a guitar center which wanted to match mpcstuff and gives 20 bucks discount?

i mean, i dont care about 20 bucks, but my friend, you know he likes to get the best price and its some kind of sport for him.

and its also the time factor. as i should finish my album end of jan, prepare the live show and just have 6 pads left and even these are about to die. and i dont want to spend another 150 bucks for the mpd. so if he gets back end of dec and i realize the pads not working it will at least last another 4 weeks until i get the new ones. you see?

so. and i am asking if there is the possibility to ensure the replace kit is working. on the other hand i am just impatient, because i want my *****

Well, to test them you either have to install them or bring in a bunch of electronic test bench equipment and clip leads to connect everything and then you actually have to know what you are doing... So if your friend knows of a GC where it's cool to do this on the sales counter I'd go for it, otherwise, no.

Maybe, but it's probably more likely that the whole pad scandal is just too embarrassing to them so they want to keep anything that looks like an official admission of knowingly selling faulty equipment (the old pads) to a minimum.

put some thought into your question, man. how the hell are you gonna test a sheet of pads that isn't connected to anything? just sayin...

hm. maybe there is the possibility to measure it with something like a voltmeter. same as you can measure a resistor..
i am not a trained electronic engineer and never touched the kit.
but if measuring is a possibility, they could check in the shop if the thing works well. that´d save a lot of time and money.

I think of all the people who have bought the pads on these forums, maybe like 2 or 3 have had an issue.
