I am syncing MPC 1000 (JJ OS 4.96) through MIDI with with Ableton Live, switching between sequences through program change messages. This works fine in principle, but the program changes indicate the *next* sequence, so I always get a delay of a few bars. I'd like to switch sequences immediately though, to make syncing tracks easier. Is that possible?

you can chose the next seq behavior somewhere so that sequences change immediately (sudden) or after the seq has played through.

Yup, I just found that out a few minutes after I posted this message, how typical . It works like a charm ;) Thanks for your response.

yo if u feed back one of yer spare midi outs to the in, u can place these prog/seq change midi events in one of the sequences, use this 'change' seq as the simult seq, and it runs throughout any sequences even as theyre changing, and then it auto changes your seq's ...mad for crazy wild seq changes instead of using remote gear.

mad instant too. ridiculous even.

Anyone got any info on how to set Ableton and the 1K up to do this? I'd always got the impression that this wasn't possible?

Say i want to move to sequence 2 on the MPC where do i go in Ableton to send the message to the 1k and where to I assign the program numbers in the MPC?

In the Notes part of the MIDI clip view you can simply enter the number of the program change you want the clip to send when it starts. Each PC number corresponds to a sequence number.

Well, I still have a question: can I also make it work without being in the Next Seq screen all the time? It would be cool to use the Track Mutes at the same time, for instance.

works in all cases except track mute screen for some reason, very upsetting this tho'

for fast workers, it would be great,

so no, just main screen, and next seq screen has the option of immediate play.

i'm slaving my 1000 off of an rm1x, and i would really like to get them set up so that i can program the PC notes in the yamaha and have the mpc switch patterns in sudden mode without having to touch the sudden key.
is there a setting on the mpc so that anytime it gets a PC message it will switch sudden?
i can't seem to find anywhere to do that.
i've been working around it by always keeping pattern lengths equivalent on both machines, but it would be nice to be able to always do sudden switches from the rm1x
