behavior of Q-Link sliders

I'm a bit baffled about the behavior of the Q-Link sliders. I want to set Q-Link 1 to setting the start time of a sample (to make for a little fine-grained shuffling). Whenever I move the slider though, it alters the tuning of the track I am playing as well. When I go into the grid editor, I indeed see Q1 and Q2 set to changing the tune... but I can't turn them off. I can only set them to different attributes. What gives? How can I set Q1 to *only* altering the sample start time?

explain the setup u have in the mode+pad1 'slider' area.

there are issues with note on variation and Q1/Q2 priorities.

start from the begining, 'cos grid edit can be a lost leader, as they often show the Q1/Q2 as methods of altering values only in THAT window.

Well, I basically have:

Q1: NOTE ON: S.START: 100 > PAD A02 50

So I set slider 1 to play the sample start. That should do the trick, in my view...

ok cool, just cos, incase u dont know, if u have two qlink set to note on, then i think only the q2 is priority..but no worries here - what u have sounds ok so far...

BUT

i think your problem may be specific to grid edit screen yeah? like i know that if viewing your sequence in grid edit, and by chance u have the view that shows any "q-real" data (F2), then the settings at the top of the screen actually override what's set up in the (mode+pad1) qlink slider page.

the distinction here being that this is now dealing with "q-real" (only q-link REALTIME data , not anything to do with q-link NOTE ON. and since its always overriding the slider setups when u r in this screen then u will get whatever it says at the top - affecting the program.

i think its intended - or happy accident on jj's part that when u r in grid edit, and u want to edit "QREAL" - (JJ's new fangled term of definition),
then the control's right there for u to exploit test and record, great if intentional, but very confusing if not......

so another point being that in this view, the 2 sliders work together (for some unavoidable programming reason) to give the max range of values (say -120/+120 for pitch, or -50/+50 decay etc..)....with slider one giving top range down to zero, and slider 2 giving zero to minimum range.

these q-real assignments can be scrolled through by cursor-ing to the top of the window, and selecting the "qreal: TR (or pad#) : tune (or other eg - cutoff,level, pan etc) attributes to modify the program with.

The thing is that it doesn't work right even before I go to the grid edit screen. I don't see what the use is of assigning NOTE-ON messages to a slider when it gets overridden by realtime settings in the grid edit anyway. Isn't there any way to get rid of the grid-settings? Or at least to assign them to NOTE-ON settings?

it seems that its not there for a reason, its all just for q-real (realtime variation) only, but i agree, if there was a F button that takes u to the same features but to develop note on slider movements.

in fact if it was mine to choose, i'd have note on variation available and q-real as they both could be edited in this useful 'vector' style.....as it is, the note on data can only be edited in the step edit page - nowhere near as conducive to creativity as the more graphic solution.....

but its obviously because its to do with events tied literally to note on's, and realtime's a more fluid method.
