I've been playing with the auto chromatic pad setting in JJ OS.

The reason I like the chromatic setting is becuase I use the MP to slave the Motif. I really dig that I can dial through the kits on the Motif but pad 1 always sounds the kick drum and so on.

I have created 'Settings' program which sets the pads chromatic (as well as some other defaults that I like).

The plan is to use the chromatic setting for all projects even projects that use samples only (and not the Motif).

Is there any downside to this method?

I figure that if I use the Settings program every time then things should work okay.

Finally, do you guys use a similar method (i.e creating a default settings program which has your fav settings).

If so....I'd love to know what kind of settings you use.

cheers,
uptight

i'm not 100% sure, but i think the weird default layout of the midi notes trys to match the default layout of older general midi sound modules. If you don't use one of those, a chromatic default should be no problem.
so, no downsides.

i dont see any disadvantages in the chromatic program. i like my programs also chromatic, starting at c1.

yeah, the layout matches old midi-assignments. so you have your kick alway on c1, rim-shots are cis1, the snare on d1 and so on. this makes it easy to switch through drum-pgms, as the notes are always assignt to the same drum-sounds. and akai thought of a good way to use this setup with the 16 pads.
you can check the general-midi standard-sounds in program mode.

yeah, i always use a chromatic layout, since starting sampling in an eps, was a kybd version so - it figures... and then asr10, then battery/kontakt etc all behave normally,

i was weakened to find (assuming) mpc was a normal sampler that after about 3weeks makin millions of trax (yeah right but..)

that then at one point (after realizing i should start fresh from a def prog in chromatic) not being able to transpose anything properly, shit wasnt following the scales, sounding all wrong - to notice these instances were only where i'd forgot NOT to use akai's bogus/standard midi template! or loaded these older progs into more recent seq's

hehhe
that taught me.

now hardly ever forget ahahah.

starting at C1 too normally, plus my NordMod plays in well from the bottom keys to pads 1,2,3 etc..

dont like the gm standard anyway.

I have a question, and Ive been stuck on this for a while, which is the reason my oxygen 8v2 controller just catches dust all day.
Now what I want to do is have a note play across the keys from lowest key to highest, basically from the 1st on the left being low and the Last on the right being High. I know how to set up the auto chromatic assignment, but when I do it the notes are just scrambled across the keys?????
How do I get it the way I want it from HI to LOw or Low To Hight. This is one of the main reasons I purchased the JJ Os but cant get it Right. If anyone can help Please!!!! I couldnt get answers on any site so now Im here

set a blank program for use with the kybd on the mpc, set the midi note layout to '35-96' or etc,, not 'default' default is midi default and not chromatic layout
that could be it

Oh ok so it has something to do with the note lay out, how do you decide which Range that might be the answer to it.

as i said above, u can either create a new program, call it eg: 'blank chromatic' (etc..), but from this point u can do it to any new or existing program...

(now there are be a few ways of doing this, but this is easiest....)

in the new global (or grobal : ) ) program editor (mode+pad11), in the sample tab (F1), choose the 'note' field, press window, then choose F3 [35-98] straight note assign.

nb: you can go back and forth with the reset to default (if the madness should take u).

but straight's defo the way to go in my keyboard use life view of things. its best for controller keyboards input to the samples in mpc programs, and its also best for controlling synths from the mpc via midi, as long as u DONT want the midi standard default layout .

(which i think is a bit outdated, and only really any use for midi drumsets. - but with an mpc - i cant imagine anyone thinking their GM midi drums are better alternatives)
