s3200 vs s950

Currently I have an xl and a 60. I was thinking about picking up a rack sampler to complement these two. I was looking at a s3200 or an s950...

I reckon the s3200 will deliver the punch of a 3000 so that's nice. But the s950 will provide the mpc60 sound + filter...

Any thoughts?

S3200=MPC 2000 sound engine
S3000= MPC 3000 sound engine

although there have been threads that say the MPC 3000 and MPC 2000 have identical components as far as AD/DA etc.

I like the 950 a lot

Woops...Guess I was mistaken...I thought that the s3200 had the mpc3000 engine...Thanks very much for clearing this up for me...In that case, easy choice...

I did a search for this stuff and found some pretty heated, and old discussion on this topic.

No, the MPC3000 uses the parts from the S3000 sampler and the MPC2000 uses the parts from the S2000 sampler. What no one has told you is that the S2000 uses the parts from the S3000 sampler. Akai did not invent anything new here

No, both use a 16mHz V53. The 2k uses a 'a' designation to allow a larger OS, but even you agree that this does not affect the sound (yes, I actually have the NEC V-series processor manuals here).

I have both service manuals here and both models uses the same DAC's, same ADC's, and same DSP.

the user interface and build quality of the S3000 series is questionable by many.

Both are great but you could turn on a 950 and get to work. But you get effects and filters with the 3000 series so its your call.

I did not like the user interface on the S3k series...reminds me of this blasted Yamaha sampler I've been struggling to use.

the S3000 is not the same (internally) as the S3200 is what I'm saying

Thanks...I know an s3200 for really cheap, and it's a pick up deal so if it's not in great condition, I can always leave it.

The s3000 I know for sale is more expensive but comes with some upgrades and an external scsi disk.

The s950 is the normal price...

I'll dig up some old threads on the differences between those machines.

Well, I like the sound of both the mpc60 and of the mpc3000...So an s950 would be nice as it gives you more options than the mpc60 and you double the memory in the mpc60...

But on the other hand, if I were to get a rack sampler that provides the sound of the mpc3000, I'll have both...

then i would say take the one which seems to be the better offer (price)....

from the "hall of fame - gear" point of view, tha s950 will beat any other akai rack sampler.

agree, the S3200 is a premium S3000. Why would Akai base the MPC2000 on the S3200 when it was their *previous* top of the line sampler and was already at that time followed up by the S2000, S3000XL etc..?

MPC2000 is based on S2000
MPC3000 is based on S3200, if anything..

And I would say, that there probably isn't a whole wack of difference (but I think my 3k sounds great!).
