Yes that sounds like something different Sovereign. Thank you for bringing that up. THat would definitely be a concern when working the way I was hoping to.

Nonetheless the other little 60 glitch that I was referring to before is actually pretty cool and makes for some interesting (not necessarily good) sequences.

I am now leaning towards the MPC 2000XL as my midi sequencer for sequencing VST's in Live. Unlike the 1000's, the 2000XL has full pads and flip screen. Ironically, I kinda feel as though I will have to worry less about pad reliability and replacement with the XL's over the 1000s (that's just a whole other headache I dont wanna touch). Plus the Xl seems to have a solid OS with no issues that I wouldn't have to constantly upgrade (i.e. JJ OS). So I can just quickly learn the Xl and get use to it without worrying about how it will look or react after an OS upgrade.

Searching for a working 1000 that will not give me any issues or headaches is a definite turn off at this point.

The 60 would still be great, but a midi overload output issue would throw my set-up off if this were true. Plus its just too damn big to fit on my desk comfortably and the prices (although seem to be slightly dropping) are still kinda outrageous.

I assume the 2000Xl will give me everything I need in the sequencer. I will also get the convenience of a flip screen and not have to worry about updating the OS all the time and looking for bugs. Plus it looks as though it will comfortably fit on my desk. It also seems to be one of the less expensive MPCs going for used these days.

The 2500 would be perfect, except they are just still too expensive these days and they give more features than I need in a unit that I will just use as a midi sequencer.

My only gripe so far with the 2000XL seems to be that I find the placement of the transport and editing buttons to be in a rather strange place (unless you are left handed). This is where I like the 2500 more, it made it feel like all the buttons controls and displays were placed logically on the mpc.

Any input or comments on my leaning towards a 2000XL now? If anyone sequences software with their 2000XL lemme know if you ran into any issues.

Thanks

Current price of used 2500 = $700 -1200 depending on options and $1699 new.
BUT
the pads on the 2500 can be worst than the ones on the 1k as many 2500 users have discovered.

OK so go to the 60 forum and ask how many people have seen what happens to the 60 when you send it a lot of MIDI or have gotten the overflow error.

Nah, I don't have to ask. I haven't seen the error in my situation.

not trying to sound like a dick here, but you seem mad bitter with your purchase. Sure it ain't built like the older models such as 3k's or 60's, but the 2500 ain't that bad. A lot of people have them and only a few got issues with their pads.

This place is so hilarious.
Anytime someone makes a statement based on reality or real world experience not the same repetitive stuff everyone else on says people trip.
Who cares how the 60, 60II/3k/2k/XL or 2500 were built?
It could be made of cardboard if it worked and did what it was supposed to do.
Over the years I have owned them all and sold them all, kept the 4k.
The point is plain and simple the pads on the 2500 misalign and false trigger.
But maybe some people don't see it as a problem to be trying to name something and keep getting names like
EJKKLWWWLK come up on the screen or tap a pad for a function and get a differnt function since it triggered the wrong pad.
It's a bigger problem than people realize since it's typically intermittent it easily dismissed.
Originally Akai said some of the units had faulty pad sensors but that wasn't the only problem going on.
Where do you think all these B-stock and refurbed 2500 that AMS, ZZounds and other stores get are coming from?
They are customer returns from people who had the problem showed up early enough to make use of their return option.
Big difference between bitter and sharing information.
Tohtruck said his fear of the 1k was the bad pads and that 2500 would be perfect if not so expensive.
So that's a very good reason to mention the 2500 pads don't you think?

Any problems with the XL's pads I should know about?

Get a 4k and be done with it. It's the only MPC with the highest resolution for ppqn. The same resolution as your favorite DAW program. And f*ck what the nay sayers have to say, they're just mad 'cause they wish they could have one.

i don't want a 4K. If I wanted to sequence like I would with a DAW, I would sequence with my DAW.

Its also just waay too big to even comfortably fit on my desk. I owned an 8800 for a few months and found that it was a waste of space. Both machines seem awesome. I would have either stayed with the MV or gotten a 4K if I didn't already own a fully capable computer and audio interface. It would just be overkill. I'd be paying for stuff I can do on the computer.

I really just want the 96ppqn sequencer of the other MPCs. I like how I work with them but I also want to simultaneously take advantage of the power of software (without having to throw samples back and forth between computer and MPC).

Right now I'm still stuck. Its most likely either the MPC 2000xl, MPC 60, or an unlikely MPC 2500 (if I can find one for a dirt cheap price).

I'm leaning towards the 2000XL sinc it appears to be among the less expensive MPC's and it can transmit MMC and send MTC sync out.

MPC 60 again seems way to big to fit on my desk. But people boast about the solid timing and swing of the sequencer. Unfortunately they still demand a high price and it cannot send MTC sync out or send MMC.

MPC 2500 is still way too expensive and I would be dropping too much dime for features I won't really use.

damn you bailed on the MV? I thought you were banging out some joints on that thing.
