Grrr...Akai OS?

How many of yall took the time to learn the basics of akai os before moving to JJ? I'm having a lil trouble learning, I think it may be attributed to my switching to JJ os OUT OF THE BOX..Bad move? Should I switch back to akai? It's the only OS with a 100 page manual I dont have to pay for...

Do Not Switch Back. Keep on the Grind. Ask some questions and don't sweat the heads who say "Read the Manual" in response. Do read the manual, but most heads will be more than ready to give you some good pointers. The JJOS is mostly the same as Akai. It's not easier to use the Akai OS or anything, TRUST ME. I've worked with both. It can be daunting at first. Just keep on the Grind.

...read the AKAI manual...or the JJ 3.08 manual?

I myself find the 3.08 guide to be incredibly vague...

well alot of the basic functions are going to be in the manual. honestly what i did was browse this forum alot before i ever posted. I didnt have a manual so i just sorted thru some of the more popular threads with information and picked them apart. Just remember the faster you try to go the slower you learn. Take ya time, get wasted and push buttons. Every now and then you'll get that "oooh so thats how you do that" feeling.

..Which manual? Cuz the JJ one reads like gibberish to me yo..How do I even assign sounds to different pads? Never before has a piece of machinery made me feel so lost lol..

3.08 guide is vague. Just keep at it. Read the Akai manual and figure out what the main screen is, and the different functions of the different screens. What issues are you having trouble with, let me know via PM if you want, and I'll help. I was just there like a year and a half ago. There is a learning curve, but once you get it, It is seriously one of the most powerful music making tools in the world. Really.

I started on the akai os for like 2 weeks, once i got the sweet taste of jj 4.x i cant go back.

the jj os scared me at first. big time. but it only took me an hour or two to get my head around it. keep on!

I only used the Akai OS for maybe a week before switching to JJ OS -- it's much better to just jump right into JJ

and don't worry too much about "read the manual" responses, the only time those posts come up is when people ask things like "how do I get my samples to the pads" and things like that which are just the most basic functions

if you're still stumped even after looking into things by yourself, then it's probably going to be a legitimate question to ask on the boards

you can pretty much learn everything by pressing all the buttons, keeping eye for the WINDOW button to light up, and giving every option a try to see what it does. You won't mess anything up so just try it all
