2000xl-mcd not enough memory

hey im new to the mpc world been producing on pt for a while. anyway i just bought the 2000xl-mcd and have been loading the libary cd that comes with the mpc, and i can only load a few drums etc, and it says not enogh memory, and the prg 1s dont even work( i bought a 1g flash and card reader and transfered off the apple mac to the flash). i notice that i have 1900k free memory from the start, but that soon goes those wav files are like 200k each. so i thought i would sample some drums from vinyl chopped em saved em and then again not enough memory comes up..... what do i do,sorry if its a dumb question please help. thanks

sounds like you need to get the 32meg ram installed........if you got the mpc brand new there's only 2mb ram in the box........

Ok Im having same problem. I opened my MPC to see what amount of memory I had installed. Come to find out I have 32mb installed. Problem is..when I check how much memory is installed through the mpc, it reads 65388k. Is this not possible since the MPC only goes up to 32mb which is what - 32620k ?

I removed the memory, restarted the MPC, and checked the memory again, still reads 65388k without memory installed. Any ideas ?

OS is 1.20

Edit: OK I have installed the memory into another 2000XL and the memory works and loads the 32mb. I noticed I dont have the little chip that sits in the socket on the board, is this a problem ?

I'm not definetely sure, but this chip you marked must be the SMPTE chip and nope, you don't have a problem if you don't have that. Anyway, reinstall the OS.

Ok Ive re-installed the OS Version 1.20 and still memory not installed but still reading at 65388k memory.

Edit: After inspecting the memory closely, I noticed 2 of the tiny chips soldered to the memory are blown - see pic..


Ok next question is this: Can this memory module going bad inside the MPC make the mainboard short out or go bad altogether ?

Note: The memory works in another 2000xl even with the blown chips on the module.

Edit: Another problem is I loaded onto the zip a 63k drum sound, and the MPC says "not enough memory" which has to mean the onboard 2mb isnt working either....right ?

i got a mpc-mcd and im fine but i got 32meg of memory! i load tons of smaples build a idea and Purge what im not using.

Ok since there arent any techs here who can really help...is Guitar Center an Akai service center ?

ok i sorted out most my problems, but still no memory upgrade i have tryed 2 sets of sticks now. and yes its the blue 1 2kxl help if u can thanks
