Finally, I have enough doe to get the MPC!

I finally saved up enough money for christmas time to get myself the present I have wanted for so long, an mpc. I had money before but the bills came in. anyways I was going for the 2500 but I keep hearing about pad issues (samples playing twice, pads misaligned, wierd shit happening) Then I hear that the 2000xl s a good buy but its slow and a little outdated. My question is oes JJ os fix the pad problems on the 2500 or is it an ergonomic headache that needs to be fixed manually? Which mpc should I go for, give me a solid reason too please?? Thanks

The JJ OS is not gonna fix the pad problem. The 2500's are just built like crap. I have seen alot of them with pad problems triggering other pads and playing sounds that came out of nowhere and the Data knob tends to go out in like 6 mos. to 1 yr. To me the XL is not out dated. You can still get the EB-16 FX card and 8 outs and Multi Card Drives. Yeah timestretching can be slow but I stretch alot of 2 bar loops and it does it fairly quick. The older MPC's have much better build quality then the new Taiwanese pieces of shiet!

Feel like you wanna stretch out with the big dawgs, then get a 4k.

Hey thanks a lot guys, I was once set on the 2500 until I heard about the pad problems and I don't want to spend over $1000 for something thats going to give me a headache in the long run. I am leaning towards the 2000xl but one more question, does the 2000xl let you turn off other samples when hitting other pads for example

When your playing a sample on one pad and then you hit another pad, does the sample from the other pad cut off instead of playing over top of the first sample. I saw someone do this on a 2500 on youtube and was wondering if the 2000xl can do this.

I will definately get the multi-card reader with the 8 outs, plus this will be cheaper than the 2500 and I will have money left over for vinyl!!

Oh and "dabmeister" I wish I could get the 4k but that's way out of my price range, maybe when I get a better job, thanks for the input though!!!

Every MPC can do this except for MPC60 with OS 2.12

I second that. I looked at and played with all 3 a few weeks ago at Guitar Center, and I couldn't believe how cheap they felt, or how small they felt. I mean I know the 500 is supposed to be portable, and the 1000 is supposed to be almost portable, but I just wasn't feeling it. Maybe I'm just too big for those little machines. Maybe more time on them would have changed my opinion, maybe actually making a beat on one, but I just wasn't feeling it.

As far as not being able to afford a 4000...if you were about to buy a 2500, the price difference between what I'm seeing for 2500s versus 4000s is NOT that much different.

The messed up thing though is that I was thinking upgrading to a 2kXL from my 2000, but did some research on 4000 prices and see that there are some pretty nice features there that might make me think 4K instead...

The 4000 is a nice machine especially with AKSYS. I have thought about tossin my 2000XL and gettin my 3000 back but I hate Zips or getting a 4000.

Yeah I actually saw a 4k on ebay for $1,295 but it was refurbished and I didn't want to take a chance. The rest of the 4k's is in the $1500+ range and the only reason I was going to get a 2500 because a couple of them were going from $900-$1100 on craigslist. I'm going to get the 2000xl thanks to the feedback you guys gave me, I also heard that the 2000xl is easy to use. Thanks for the advice.

I just might start believing my 2500 really is a piece of shit...

when still had my white/blue 4k, I saw or felt no difference between the 2500 and 4k in terms of built quality

I've taken them both apart, parts/materials used on both units looked similar

even the 1k I had felt sturdy and well made, besides the pad issue.

people will knit pick every possible wrong thing about a machine, but their skill.

went to a show last night in the city and dude was rockin' two 2500's, not XL's.

it really comes down to, price tag, features, and preference.


jog wheel could be improved on 2500, so it's smoother like the 4k or 1k. but that's bout it.

i always hated my 1k's jogwheel...

i actually like my 2500 alot... my pad issue left after a hard reset...


but i will say... there is a diff. in feel for sure... i loved my 2000's pads..


however... i work ten times faster on the 2500... to me that is what matters... output... not my gear...

Najrock, What do you mean by a "hard reset" and what makes the 2500 workflow faster than the 2000. just wondering because I really like the usb and the cd/dvd drive in the 2500 but if it really ain't that big of an advantage then I'm settling with th 2kxl

The XL & 2500 have the same workflow. They are so similar but the XL is probably easier interface to learn cause the 2500 you have to use the pads and Open Window button alot to get into the screens.
