How do i eq and filter b4 i sample? do i need the eb16? outboard gear? cuz theres certain sounds within the sample that i dont want in there, u know?
What u use and need to EQ depends on what you are trying to achieve. EQ shapes a sound by altering its frequencies by either cutting or boosting particular ranges (in a nutshell)
For instance, If you have found a kick drum u like....but before you sample it u would like it to hit a bit deeper/harder whatever. One step in the right direction to achieving this could be to increase/boost the freqs that control that area of sound - Its around the 80-100Hz region and is known as the 'Bottom' 'Low' or ' Low end'
There are a few guide lines freq settings that can help u for a whole load of instruments and sounds etc, but they are note rules and nothing you have to stick to
If you are using a mixer, you could make these tweaks on the desks before and after you sample in. The Eb16 card could also be used but this would be only after you have sampled your sound. You can also make changes once you have bounced your tracks back into your DAW using your sequencers EQ plugins etc
To be honest, I wouldn't aim to get a fully mixed standard of EQ on your sounds before you sample them because...Well thats what mixing the record is for. Suttle adjustments yes, but more importantly, aim for a good, clear loud signal from good quality sound sources and you'l be fine. What goes in must come out
