 *laughing to myself*... call me what you wanna but, damn crate diggin! what do you call a beatmaker who crate digs on youtube? cheap? smart? a damn fool?
i've found alot of stuff that i've never knew about and i've been on fire since. instead of stacking wax, i'm stacking MP3 vids. now, for some records that i deem a must have (i.e. Donald Byrd's "Mysterious Vibes" and Billy Cobham's "Heather") I WILL, call around and request a copy from my nearest record store.
so, what do you wanna call that? i call it "Digi Diggin"!!!8)

I call that using samples that you'll never be able to play live or put on an album. They don't call it lossy compression for nothing.

mp3's sound like garbage. Sorry, just stating facts.

LOL! call me what you want but only if you've heard the stuff i've came up with. you'd be eating those same words.
but it's cool. be easy... lame wannabe.
p.s.
btw, i do own vinyl. bout a small shelf full. i do plan on buying the albums i download from youtube. why dig for dirt when you can at least hear what you're getting?

I hear you on that last point, I sometimes use allmusic if I'm looking for a good album, but in general (at least for me personally) if someone has put it up on youtube, that means 100 cats have flipped it already, and though I have no problem with that, I'm not trying to flip samples everyone else already has.

I think youtube has it's merits though...I just wouldn't use samples off the site if I were you, it'll bite you in the a** sooner or later.

That will only get you so far buddy. Eventually people are going to get tired of your beats when every single one has a sample used by what's his face.

I've sampled drums off a youtube vid before and the responses I got were:--"man those drums are unique"----no one knew the difference

I would rather dig for vinyl---but sometimes youtube works just fine

okay. lemme set this straight. yes i sample off youtube lik 9th wonder uses fruity loops. I DO CRATE DIG!!! if i can get the sample i want from the store, i will... but if i can't, **** it. i'm gon get that **** how i get it, and clear the sample later. and why would i **** the same **** 2x when everybody & they're momma did? in other words, why would i flip the same sample that's been done over?
as far as the masterpieces are concerned... let me say something else. i love this forum. but this place is full of half baked ass critics who have nothing else to do with their time but judge other peoples ETHICS. i mean, are y'all the godfather's of this shit right here we call HIP HOP? i bet some of y'all are saying, "why didn't i think of that?". but it's all good tho. y'all be following suit sooner than you think.

to STONESTHROW: don't you have a beat to make or something? i mean, we're just DYING to hear yours too!

Dude dont let this cats tell you how to make your music... sample anything and everything you can mp3 or vinyl whatever... its all good.... the average listener wont be able to tell the difference between an mp3 and a vinyl sample anyway... just make music... its an artform and theres no right or wrong at all...... some artists throw some paint at the wall call it art so whos to say whats right and whats wrong in this (musical) art

plus sampling mp3s will save ya some money too and it can help you to discover artists so when your really DITC you can know what to dig for

GODDAMMIT! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT FAM! i've learned ALOT just by listening to stuff on youtube...almost like a history lesson in hip hop music, ya feel me. i'm diggin into folks like donald byrd, catalyst, mandrill, cal tjader, etc. mothaphukkas i ain't never heard of. but, it's opening me up to the possibilities of the type of samples out there. so like you said in a nutshell, TO HELL WIT THESE BUSTAS!

p.s.
as far as posting beats, why would i give away HALF a GRAND? you must be smoking...son!
but if you can imagine the sound of Three 6 Mafia & Just Blaze, then you got a good idea. be easy.
