"Wrong File!"

Hey guys, I've been using my MPC1000BK for about six months now. Upgraded to a hard drive, but still running the Akai OS. I've lived in fear of this error that always seems to pop up from time to time where a sequence is saved fine and then one day when i'll go to load it it just complains "Wrong File!".

I did some searching and it seems people have this error with PGM files when using samples the MPC can't handle, but I didn't find anything to do with SEQ files giving this error. I'm fed up remaking some of my favorite sequences and tediously keeping backups of everything I make just because the MPC decided to corrupt/not read my files, is there anything I can do? Should I switch to the JJ OS?

Of course you should switch to the JJ OS. The faulty Akai disk format routine that causes those errors is what forced most of us to switch in the first place. Just remember to reformat that drive after you upgrade or you'll probably still have the same problems.

Oh wow, so this is actually one of the things the JJ OS tries to fix? If installing this will finally solve this problem for me, it sounds like I have a new project for tomorrow afternoon! I would love for my mpc to be reliable. Luckily right now I'm doing backups of all my shit, but when I start using it at gigs in the new year I can't have it not loading sequences when I need them.

Anyone else have this -or a similar- problem, and have it solved by using the JJ OS?

No, this is one of the things the JJ OS succeeds in fixing. I realize the search function can be a bit tricky, but if you want testimonials it's all in the forum archive. Tons of it. This is well established at this point. If you really like that Akai OS (I can't imagine why) you can install the free JJ 3.06 version, reformat the drive and put Akai back on there afterwards and it should work ok but you'll have to do the same thing again every time you want to format a drive, which is silly. Just say no to Akai software. You'll thank yourself.

Perfect, knowing that I will never have to deal with this worry and actually expect that I can depend on my MPC without carrying my macbook around with me to gigs for backups, which defeats the whole purpose why I got my MPC, so I would get away from using software!

Haha! I'm sold, but now I don't know where to start, I read the final release of OS2 isn't expected until March 08 or so, so I'm thinking about waiting for that release... but it's a long time to wait. This is going on not knowing how long it takes to reinstall everything and trying to avoid formatting a lot.

I'd like to switch to JJ 3.08 at least though...

Wow I suck, I just installed JJ OS 3.08 in like 30 seconds....

exactly... now if everyone else with the AKAI OS could just grow some balls and dive into installing it like that, the world would be a better place

Haha for sure. Yeah if I knew from the start that it would be this simple to do the switch and that it would actually be more stable than the official OS than I would never have waited so long to do the switch. All the differences to the UI all seem to be a lot more intuitive!
