How do I safeguard against corrupting my Harddrive?

I'm just wondering, because with the USB connection for ak.sys I'm worried that if I get some crazy virus or something on my PC that it will spread to the 4k. Besides having antivirus on my PC, is there anything else I can do to protect the 4k?

I'm no computer genius, but, I'm reasonably sure thar a virus from the pc couldn't infect the 4k. different systems, os, etc...

you can get attacks that will search out ports (usually internal ID's on a board) as well as external drvies connected via USB!

i've been very cautious with my usage when connecting cause of this.

my biggest tip is to get some Spyware, something you actually have to pony up some money for cause they search much deeper and have a team updating regularly.

i ran the free AdAware for a few months, finally broke down and bought the other one and it searched much much deeper : pulled something like 34 objects that Adawre missed. now i run them both : still not catching everything i'm sure...


as well, i disconnect the LAN on my OS prior to making the USB connection. i drag, drop and manage but make sure to unplug ASAP. i don't let the machine sit while i doodle on the 4K so that way i cut down on the possibilty the system runs a timed Operation (like virus sweep or disc clean-up). also : turn the HIBERNATION mode off on your CPU, sometimes AKsys will hang if your system sleeps.

all of this should help cut down the fragmentation and the possibility of contamination on your music. good luck!

I got another question related to Ak.sys and USB. Sometimes I do something stupid like shutting down the 4k before I close ak.sys or I've unplugged the USB while everything was running (stupid I know)....then the USB conection is lost....then I realize I have to turn on the 4k and open up ak.sys again to do something.....and then ak.sys doesn't "see the 4k". Is there anything I can do in this case to get ak.sys working again besides re-booting my PC?

windows viruses can't affect your mpc because the program code for viruses are windows specific.

i thought that some viruses also corrupt data : some bugs i've heard tell the drive or fan to operate differently etc.

i dunno : i play it safe!

Ive asked manny highly eductated computer experts about this and they all say that its almost impossible to transfer virusses to the mpc.
Only when someone makes a virus specialy for the mpc then it might be possible.

that's good to hear! yeah, i'm no computer whiz at all. i've just had my system down like 3 times in the past year and my only cpu powerful enough to handle ops is connected to the net.

i've had Plasma flake due to some contamination and i was a little freaked about using any of the WAV samples that were associated with the program files.

nothing wrong with playing it safe, but im not to much worried about windows viruses affecting my mpc, mainly because I've never heard of such a thing with any hardware, if anything id be more worried about my HD maybe crapping out after a while need to back that up

nah there is a slight risk with some viruses who can erase data on any device connected to the computer, but the MPC's hard drive can't be read by the PC as an external drive so i guess a virus erasing your files on the MPC's hard drive is not very likely to happen
