mpc 500 question about bars...

I noticed that when i was screwing around with my mpc 500 it records a 2 bar beat. So I went to make the beat a 16bar beat and realized how annoying that is because you have to hear the first two bars play first, then continue on to make the other 14bars. My question to you mpc users is: Can I make the beat 16 bars without actually having made the beat ? I tried to do it for a sequence that had not been used but it said somehting like no sequence or something...do you guys understand what I am saying? please help..thanks.

Another thing you need to do is read your mpc 500 manual. Nothing will take the place of "you" knowing exactly what your machine will do. There are plenty of features you'll never learn about unless you spend a few hours/days learning, in the end you'll thank yourself

cool, you answered my question thanks. As far as reading the mpc500 manual, its really pissed me off to be honest with you. For example, it says to start a sequence, just press sequence..but skips the step where you have to actually load your program/sounds first. I also tried to record and save a sample from a cd, it would not save on the mpc and I did everything the manual said, the manual is going to get kicked in the nads.

Although you can do what my home girl Nicole said... I Advise you to do this "Hit The Sequence Button On The Mpc" Then "The Params Button" "Then Scroll The Wheel To Sequence Length" From There You Can Set It 2 Bars Or More....

Damn I see a trend of people ho just expect the MPC to do it for them with no work put in........

Dude if you aint gonna master the manual and put the work in...downoad some loops and get a phrase sampler....

the MPC is an instrument not a "get beat" quick tool...you have to learn your tool man

I dont know if the mpc is defective or what..but there has been a few things that it says to do, I will do it verbatim and it will not register. I am reading this manual like crazy as well as another manual downloaded from this site, so please spare me the backpacker-esq speach of how I want an instant beat maker. I plan to get serious, be patient and don't judge.

I hear you, man. that manual made me want to punch a Buick when I first read it. It's made for people who are somewhat familiar with MPC I guess. This is my 1st MPC, I came from software. I almost broke down and bought the e-book for 40 bucks, then I messed around and figured something out myself. Don't be afraid to call the Akai tech support #, that's their job. Also, I make it a point to not start messing with it if I'm already pissed off at something or really tired. I mean, I'm no Pete Rock or J. Dilla, but I'm a lot better than when I first started.
