but im back.
i have a little news that may be old , im too lazy to search for it . so sue me
but my rio carbon recently bit the shitter , so i cracked it open to get the seagate 5 gig micro drive inside.
re formatted it in my mpc. and lo and behold. 5 gigs of storage recognized.
so much for the 2 gigs it claims on the akai specs.

so ya , thats it.... go find yourself craped out rio's and gut em for mega memory with no hard drive WHIRRRRRRRRRR

and it's not just formatting it and reading it as a 2GB card? you sure?

Thanks for that info, I was wondering about microdrives.

BTW I've seen other people on here claim they were able to use cards greater than 2gig w/no problem.

I've Got a 4 Gig Micro in mine right now. The limit, apparently, is only for Compact Flash Cards...

wow! i just confirmed this. my 5GB microdrive arrived in the mail today and the mpc1000 is reading it with 4768MB of free space. awesome!

keep in mind that i got this on ebay for $20 shipped (10 + 10 shipping)... that's even cheaper than a 2gb flashcard. now i just have to see how well this holds up and what the loading/saving times are like... but this is looking like the best option so far.

yo crossings how are the load and save times on this, cause i will definitely snaggle one of these even though i already got a 2 gb cf card with about 1.5 gb free.

grublet: yeah that exact same one, but it came without that gold colored cable in the front... i guess you remove that part.

raider: so far, so good... either just as fast if not faster than the 2GB Sandisk typeII that i'd been using... i just saved a whole song onto the card, turned it off and loaded it back into memory... seems to be working fine both ways.

sorry to be a retard, but does this drive go into the CF slot then? or is it internal?

into the CF slot just like a flashcard... it's a little fatter [taller] though... but still fits.

just another observation with the microdrive... it seems to not work with my computer's usb flashcard reader... it works fine within the mpc though... i still haven't tried it with the mpc directly hooked up to my computer via usb instead. that will probably work... but i found it strange that it won't work at all with my separate card reader.

ok.. i just mounted it with the mpc's usb port instead and it worked fine. for what it's worth, splash screens work just the same as well.
