I'd advise buying JJ OS 1 and JJ OS 2. JJ OS 1 needs to be purchased before you can use JJ OS 2 anyway.

Read this forum and check out posts by people such as Antonym if you're looking for reasons why you need the JJ OS.

here is Nym's reasons for getting OS2 which of course needs os1 to use. But i totally agree with Nym, the doors that os2 opens are uncomparable to os1. The amount of processing you can do to your sounds is, for the lack of a better word, amazing. Trust me this will take your work or beats or what ever you are doing with the MPC, unless you are just using it as a MIDI controller, to a new level. I have had it for about a day, and i could never go.

Also i am assuming in march 2008 when JJ releases the "1.0" version of JJ OS2 he will stop updating os1. This is just my thoughts no promises, but it is definitely worth it to spend the $80 and get both. You can always chose which one you boot to (hold tap tempo during boot, for your info :D ).

whether or not you plan on getting os2 eventually, you will have to grab os1 to begin with. i'd say start with that. however, when you've installed os1, you can install the os2 demo alongside os1. you can switch back and forth between the 2 os's, essentially having them both installed simultaneously.

it's the same concept as "dual booting" a pc with 2 copies of windows, or a copy of windows and a mac os.

this way, you only have to buy os1 for now. then, you can experiment and explore os2. os1 is still the better of the two for getting work done - os2 is on the beta tip. all the projects i start from this point on are on os2.

os1 is VERY stable, very professional and capable. however it lacks many of the more sample-sculpting features of os2 that users will quickly come to depend on. i know i already do.

yeah, nym is right, i can not start a project any more not in os2. And as he calls it the "sample sculpting" is essential and you will never be able to go back. I mean this really depends on what you are going to do with your mpc. But i mean i range from full electronic music pieces to beats. But i mean the sculpting is very powerful for what ever you are into you just have to put the time into learning how to use it.
