Jus depends on your workflow. I would say cop some monitors/headphones and a audio interface. With the mpc1000 and the right computer software you can def make some nice stuff. Sh*t u can make some nice stuff on the mpc1000 alone. But ne ways check my blog out. I got alot of stuff im pretty sure that would be helpful to you.

Basics:
-MPC1000
-Decent PC/Laptop
-Recording Software(FREE-reaper-see blog for download)
-Headphones and/or Monitors
-Audio Interface(eg. Tascam US-122/M-audio 2496)-make sure it has MIDI
-Turntable
-DJ mixer/Preamp(unless already built in TT)
-Records/Sounds

foreal, lol..i wasn't tryin to be a dick head w/that pic..it's just that asking someone "what you need" is a little half ass imo..at least do some research into what you need, based on WHAT YOU WANT TO DO..then ask questions..coming at it like this is only gonna get you a hundred different answers, and on top of that confuse you even more..

what version of jj are you running? no one needs a hard drive..then 128MB Ram Expansion is a good buy..but hard drives are really meant more for people who want to carry their entire sound libraries w/them, without the need for constant file transfers etc..i for one don't mind using the cf card, but to each their own..

ok..im running 3.08 as well..im at the mp right now, what exactly are you having trouble with? chopping samples shouldn't be too hard to figure out, just load the sample and press mode+trim..let me know if this helps..

yeah probably so..i didn't even get into chopping until after i installed the ram upgrade..lace it with the 128mb and see how that works out..

if u need to chop for now, make the samples smaller. cause it takes your original sample, then chops it into however many regions, then adds those into memory. so now instead of 1 sample, you have 8 (or however many chops).

that will eat the memory right up. get the memory upgrade right away. since u have a pc the HD space isnt a priorty on the MPC

i got my ram from kingston for 45 shipped.

I'm basi ally in the same boat as you, qwithin the next fwe weeks my setup will be a basic one consisting of:

MPC 1000
Gemini XL500 Turntable(for sampling off of)
Shitty 2 channel mixer(for connecting turntable to mpc)
256MB RAM card (for memory on MPC)
and 4-8GB Microdisk (for Storage on MPC)
Decent Quality "SkullCandy" headphones

I think with this setup ill be fine for a while, i also have an audiop interface with teh free version of cubase that i can install into my ocmputer to have some sort of DAW network, but its not installed yet i think i want to do everyhtign on the mpc for a while and get it down packed before i move over to software
