question for all 500 owners

Hey everyone, Im gonna be traveling alot with my job (flying, airports,and hotels) and I was wondering if anyone is in the same boat as I am with traveling and own a 500. If so, what are your opinions about that piece? Also what and how are the effects that are on the board itself?

I own a 500 and do quite a bit of travelling for work so regularly take my 500 with me, that's initially the reason why I bought it. Hmmm what can I say? I love it! It's compact, Light weight yet sturdy enough to carry about with you.

The effects aren't so great, but that's just my opinion.


Way more fun than a laptop though.

I appreciate that....I might look up one on ebay...would you upgrade the memory...?is it esential?

Upgrading the memory really depends on whether or not you want to have the machine loaded with a lot of samples. I have mine at 128mb which is great for me because I travel a lot and need to keep the unit loaded with different kits and sounds for convenience sake. if you are just using the unit at home with a DAW then you wouldn't really need the extra ram as you can put a beat straight to disk and then move on to the next one.

Surely you only need large CF memory for the travelling? More onboard memory is essential only if you need lots of sampling time in a sequence / song.

Your right! I should have clarified, I have the 128mb for sampling time sequence/song etc! Large CF memory will suffice for holding sounds.

Its a dream of a machine to use!

i work for an airline and i always travel with my machine.. keep it in ya carry on bag, so that it won't be tossed around in the bin or dropped off the belt loader when unloading or loading the plane. be prepared to open it and put it in the bucket when going thru tsa, just like you would do a laptop. I never had a problem bringing it thru. I actually use it on flights although JETBLUE has TVs and XM radio for free, some of the duration of the flight i'd make some beats on my 500. Bring some good headphones so you can lock out the sound of the engine, especially if you're sitting near the wing or the baby crying especially if you're sitting in coach.. UPGRADE!!! LMAOOOOO!
I don't know if i'd bring it on BOATs.. a ship maybe, but not a boat...if travelling by car you don't want to put it in a bag and have bags on it or put it in a bag and you stop by 7/11 and your slushy falls on the bag with your mpc in it or leave it in a car in the summer when it's hot. Just take care of it and it will take care of you.
