HOW DO YOU GET THE FATTEST SOUND OUT THE 2KXL

im not even up to that stage yet but i still say word

you can expect to do every single thing in one machine.. unless you wanna only use software and download all your samples i guess

but still, getting yourself the right preamps, denoisers, effects units, synths and all other shits to make your stuff sound just that much better

xl isnt flat just tweak your sounds either before or after you put your beats together

mpc1000 and 2500 sounds a little thin
but 2000 doesnt sound thin at all
i used to have a 1000 and compared with 2kxl
2k sounds FAT comapred to 1000

if you have a good soundcard and any of the multi-track digital recording programs, i would recommend that you run your mpc into a good preamp then direct box and then into your workstation and eq and compress within the program, its non destructive instead of running your samples into the mpc with the effects already on, no way to take it off once it's inside your mpc.. its so much easier to do arrangements that way. and instead of using song mode, cut and paste segments.. you'll definitely have much more control over what your beats are going to sound like

I don't know about the 2.5k, but the 1000 can do a lot with the internal effects.

I'm not trying to get attention, but check out my page, the Blackhole Traincoaster beat was done on a 1000, then two tracked through my mackie 14 ch, straight to Tools.... I added a -2db limiter, and a slight cut above 14k to eliminate some of the hiss... but it sounds almost exactly the same on the 1000.

the Elements of rain beat was on the Xl, with a little more leveling and compression because I added vocals, but it was also two-tracked through the same mackie.

they both sound DIFFERENT, but I would say that "thin" is not the right word to explain the 1000, I would call it "more produced", or more "pre-mixed"

you judge for youselves, if you feel like checkin it out, but you can pull quality sound from either machines, its just you can do more with pre- mixing on the 1000 IMO... (I didn't like the EB16 for the 2k so I use more engineering when making a beat on the 2k).

I'll say this for sure though... you can make a snare into a kick, or a kick into a snare on the 1000, no matter how muddy (un-eq'd/filtered) the original sample is, because you have more internal eq filters... the 2xl only has the high-pass cut, and resonance.

Forat has a output boost modification for the 2000 xl and some tasty kits to pick up. my 2000xl rocks and Ihave used it along side a 3000 Ireally didnt hear any difference.

to sample my sounds I go through an older makie mixer and a bbe sonic maximizer to help shape the low end, they both make a big difference.

What I said about the 2000's sound and using outboard equipment is not only from real world experience but is actually the general consensus with every professional producer I have encountered using the 2000 XL .. It is such a popular unit beacuse of its ease of use workflow and ergonomic feel and not really for the sound. All samplers have a certian sound period.. the circutry colors sound in a certian manner, Not to say the 2000 sounds bad but in my opinion of using one for 6 years it is harsher than the other models of MPC's i have used and low end tends to not translate on sampling the same source as well as the 60 or 3000. It is also reinforced by the fact that the S3000 ( MPC 3000 Sound Engine Rackmount ) and the S950 ( MPC 60's sound ) are soughtafter and in wider use than the S2000 ( MPC 2000-XL's sound engine ) .. I still have a 2000xl and I love it but my comments on the way the MPC's and the quality of what you make on the MPC as opposed to what you hear on an album are accurate..
