There is a new OS for the MPC3K. It's called Vailixi 3.50 and its the best thing to happen to 3K users EVER. If I bought a brand new 3K today, I would get Vailixi before I got a zip drive, card reader, even memory. Rohan Mansell is the software designer behind this magic and you can read about it more at www.mansell-labs.com
If you love your 3K the way I do then I assure you this will be the best $199.00 you ever spend.

How do you figure? You got some insider information or something?

"USB port for transferring samples and other files, MIDI messages and audio I/O to and from computer."

From the specs on the linn site.

Audio in/out from computer is cool IMHO.

i hope M-Audio stay away from this product

i also hope they improve the panel graphics for the end product, they look very amateur at this stage

i have a feeling this will go like the Toft console - will arrive 6 months after due date at twice quoted price, but will still sell nonetheless as the market continues to embrace boutique gear

No worries... M-Audio isn't involved in the design or manufacture of the LinnDrum II. The Black Box was the only product that I know of where M-Audio and Roger Linn teamed up for, which is due to the AdrenaLinn. Dave Smith helped Roger Linn with the AdrenaLinn, and of course the AdrenaLinn models are much better quality.

As far as the panel graphics are concerned, the pictures look like they were computer generated like the BoomChik. I'm sure the finished product will look even better, especially when we get to see it in person. The original LinnDrum is a beautiful machine. So I know the LinnDrum II will be even more of a beauty.

I'm unfamiliar with the Toft console. But as far as i know, it's got nothing to do with Roger Linn or Dave Smith. Neither Roger or Dave would be deceptive with their price quotes. I got a feeling that the prices we saw will be as close as possible to what's been quoted. If it takes them longer than projected to get the LinnDrum II on the market, that's okay with me. I'd rather see them take their time to make sure everything is perfect. Besides, I need more time to save money.

:)

Some more info about the LinnDrum II Analog.

I asked Roger Linn if the extra features on the Analog version would be similar to the desktop Evolver or if it would be different enough to make the Analog unit worth it for us Evolver owners. Here's what he said:

The voice signal path of the LinnDrum II Analog will be somewhat different from that of Evolver because it is optimized for drum voices (as shown on the panel voice layout), plus it permits samples of any length as wave sources as well as user sampling. However, the Evolver voice produces great drum sounds. Also, you can use the Evolver or any other MIDI synth as an external sound source for LinnDrum II voices.

Thanks for your interest,

- Roger Linn

Just by looking at the picture you can see the words 'beats' 'steps' 'quantize' 'sequence' 'song' 'transport' 'bpm'
Short answer no. Roger Linn has designed a sound module with pads on it that cannot be used as a sequencer
Not trying to be a dik btw just having a lil fun is all.
Chulukinat wrote:there should be a dedicated midi out and midi thru i think.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want a MIDI thru?
I use the MPC3KLE which has 4 MIDI outs so I never need a thru, and on my Vdrums, and (presumably) most other pieces there is an option that treats the MIDI out as a thru if you need that. I haven't heard talk about thru since people were using MIDI printers and such.

yo dik ! i actually meant an external sequencer... which i thought was quite obvious unless you're used to answering dumb questions. ... hope i dont sound to aggressive haha

i want midi thru because my mpc 1000 only got 2 midi outs and the people of clavia already thought it wasnt nessasary to put a midi thru on the nord 2x rack... so im already messing around... another unit without midi thru would make me have to get a midi router and that would mean even less space and more cables. not to speak about the extra dough... you feel me?
