what i need

got my mpc 1k ,so what other things do i need to start making music far as recording out to my pc(laptop). and i also have the axiom 49 runnin with fl studio i know i can use fruityloop as for sounds to, but i want to expand from fl studio it's to easy now.what else can i use with my midi keyboard,mpc1k . far as mixer goes programs, etc etc. thank u guys

it also depends on what your trying to do. i'll tell you what i have.

i play all my drums and keys on my keyboards and mpc and then record them into protools. once in protools you can set up your song as far as intro, verse and chorus or move things, fade them in and out etc.

for about $500 you can get an mbox which includes protools, midi and audio interfaces. i have a mackie mixer ($500) that i use to control the levels of the keyboards, mpc, microphones etc. and if you have some speakers, thats really all you need. i dont know what your tryin to do tho

i dont use reason and all that crazy stuff, so someone else will have to tell you what you need for that.

that's about it i just wanted to upgrade from fl studio to make more sample base music thats all. i like fl studio don't get me wrong i have a liitle money to spend so i wanted start a small studio. never know were it might take me .but mostly its for me i love making diffirent types of music.

youll need a turntable for your samples...some nice studio monitors...and a mixer or a preamp to go from the turntable to the mpc...

thats if you want to go the hardware route...i think DAW is cheaper in the long run, but in the beginnign its expensive to set up a nice DAW computer with protools and audiop interfaces adn all that shit

yeah i feel u i whether be more hands on with my music far as sampling and making beats.keyboards r cool in all if u know to play it . i find it kind of hard trying to make a melody using synths im not knocking making any kinda of music i like **** with samples though then add your on touch to that like jdilla, peterock ,large professor, etc etc i think everybody have there on style of making music.

i do mostly sample based music. i have an old turntable, mpc 1k, and fl studio. for processing i have a yamaha su 700 sampler and a reel to reel recorder. every part of the song creation happens between the mpc and su 700 and or reel to reel. then gets recorded into fl studio for mixing. it sounds to me like you have what you need.

turntable, audio interface, mpc, phono preamp, and a fat stack of records. and if you are looking to get more hardware, id look into a patchbay. i am waiting for mine now, but it is a pain in the ass not having one.

also if you got $1500, i would hit every record shop and thrift shop within a 50 mile radius and start building your vinyl collection. thats where you are going to get your samples from.

possibly a tube mic pre or some guitar fx pedals to ahape your sounds.

What kind of audio card do you have? I assume you already have a midi card of some kind since you have a midi keyboard. If all you have is the mpc, you might be able to skip the mixer for now. But I guess if you're going to use a turntable you'll need a preamp from someplace, in which case a mixer would probably have one (unless you get something like a line mixer).

But as was suggested, get good monitors.

And as far as upgrading from FL, I don't know - I mean it's made for handling samples isn't it? And you can record directly to it. I got it the other weekend to play with and haven't gotten very far, but it seems like an ok sequencer. It looks like it has come a long way from when it was just called Fruity Loops. Are there specific features that it doesn't have that another sequencer does have? If so then I guess you'd need to change. But I'd caution just changing for the sake of something new.

i here u man ive been using fruitylopps 4 a min now since the very 1st one. ive just been sleep on other things like the mpcs , keybords, intrefaces ,all that shyt. i just got this laptop last year u know. so i started waching youtube and came across a guy sampling a record and he made a beat with this grey white machine like thing and that shyt blew my mfin mind.so i just started searching more on youtube and seen more and more vids of cats old and young making music and im like wtf is this .then start watching d.i.t.c. vids and im like thats where that song came from dam. i never new j dilla r..i.p. and what he did in the hip hop nation. but this cat was hot so i started doing my research on evreything everybody so now i just have a axiom 49 and my pc and mpc 1k i have a bcd2000 could i use that. ps: do any of u guys remember mtv music generator for sega genesis its was a game for making music it had all typs of shyt on there had a sample engine on there so can take cd of yours and sample that syht it was crazy..

its really up to what it is that you are trying to do. what is your signature sound? or what do you want it to be if you dont have one. mine has evolved into a lofi sample based sound. i used to compose strictly on fl, now im moving away from that to a more hardware based set up.

so i could go on with what i would do with the dough, but you gotta figure out some things for yourself first. if you have the mpc, i would say definatly a phono preamp, a standard stereo turntable(unless your a dj), an audio interface to record the mp into fl studio, cables, and a nice stack of records. hit the dollar bins until you start learning what you like, and go from there.

what i'm trying to do is make good soundin music thats all not tryin to be next superproducer and go all mainstream but if sombody wanted to buy a track hell yeah, but just for the love of music. have nice record collection like u said. since been using fruityloops i found that all my tracks is around the 95 to 105 bpm and have hard time making a rythm with synth and vst and stuff like that. but when i do sample tracks in fl studio my trks sound better but samplin fl studio takes a long time if u know what i'm talking about

yeah, its a pain for me to sample in any daw now. and you might not be trying to be the next super producer, but you still have to find what your trying to do. so cop some vinyl and tt and interface and go from there. you can use fl as a sound module with the mpc. so if you want to drop a bassline or synth line, you can do that. just get started. throw some tracks up on your myspace if you have one and pm me with them. id like to hear what you do and what your trying to do.
