Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

hi all,

Im aware this sounds like a newb question, I have never used akai products before.

Can i use my mpc 500 for step sequencing? Like can I manually assign a sample(ex.virus kick) in a grid the way one would use like a midi software sequencer, create playback and later build tracks? Or is my only option manually record loops I make with the pads?

The manual gets on my nerves. I'm wondering if theres a similar way to use it to midi sequence(note by note-grid) my synths.

I had been tired of using computers and one of the reasons I got into the MPC was that my friend said I could use it this way.

Yes you can step record on the mpc 500. Put notes where you want them to be. Not sure how it looks visually on the mpc500 since its smaller but it can be done.

Hit MODE + Pad 11 takes u into the STEP EDIT screen.

I find it very straightforward to step edit on the 500, but there is no real visual representation. The < and > buttons are used to navigate to the quantized notes, then fine edit using the jog wheel.
