USB powered Midi controllers & midi cables

Any one using a midi controller, if so are you powering up off a usb cable and have an addtional midi cable out too mpc working with no problems.

Or do you use an external power source and just a midi cable. I think the mpc can not pick up the midi data because there is not enouth power to the keyboard with just a usb power source.

I have a edirol pcr-30 which only works properly with an external power source and midi cable ,mpc picks up midi data no problem. I just need confirmation this is how most users are working .

I have a PCR 30 as well and it works just fine with USB power only. Are you plugging it into the MPC's USB slot?

No, I am not pluggin in to the mpc usb port, cable connections are as follow

midi controller usb to pc usb port
midi controller midi out to mpc midi in 1
mpc midi in in 2 to midi interface out
mpc midi out A to midi interface in

these connections work with pcr 30 using external power and midi cable
but will not work if powered of pc usb port and midi cable being used at the same time. This also applies for an M-Audio keystation the mpc receives no midi data from the keystation midi out

i have the new oxegon 49 from m audio, i hope it works with the usb cause i dont think i got a power plug

it should be fine, took mine back to the store were they had a look and concluded the mpc was **** so they have sent it back to akai

Hey, my first post!

After having my MPC for about six months i got myself a Edirol PCR-M1 midi controller which ONLY came with a USB cable to power it off. At first i sthought it would be fine but after plugging the keyboard into my PCs USB port my MPC just would not pick it up!! I then switched to the Batteries option (Haven't had a chance to get myself a DC power supply yet) and it worked fine. MPC is also working fine (so far).

MAXIM1 - did they say what was wrong with the MPC?

They could not give a technical answer, but the jist of it is , the mpc would only work with certain models of midi controller. I did make sure i had all the correct power settings and devices in place when using and testing. I also had issues with sync. so the logical conclusion was the mpc it self.

OK, cool. I don't use a PC or other software so I would not know if i have the same SYNC issues as you do. For now I'll continue with my batteries option (until i can find power supply) but let me know what happens when you get you girl back.

I had the same issue with my M-Audio board. I have the same hookup and usb works but no signal from Midi at all.

After a week with no luck I was sure the keyboard was bad , took it back to Guitar Center replaced the unit and received a new model only to have the same issue...no external midi.

I'll buy a power adapter and give it a try...really hope this works because I like the Keyboard just want to get the most out of it .

Back in the day I was having similar issue with trigger finger. If I remember correctly by powering the controller of USB connection it automatically makes USB default midi device.

So if you wanna use the midi out while the controller is powered of USB it's not gonna happeh. You gotta buy a power supply to use analog Midi Out. They run about $10 piece at radio shack.

If I'm not mistaken korg pad kontrol is capable of this and can act as a midi interface besides being a midi controller. I could be wrong tho
