copying sequences

copying sequences

say i record a midi sequence and then i want to copy this sequence to another sequence so i can add some changes to it without screwing up the original,...how would i go about doing this? thanks.

save as midi file type, play around with the copy and leave the original intact.

In the SEQUENCE field of your sequences window, press the OPEN WINDOW button and choose f5 COPY
You can then choose where to copy your sequence to and rename it if you wish.

Got it, but damn this seems kind of inefficient. For instance what if im creating a breakdown and I want to slowly take out each part of the beat, or even just drop the snare for like a bar or something..Do i have to create a new performance with the pads each time im trying to take elements out of the beat ? Even if its a super small change?

That doesn't seem inefficient to me. Say you wanted to just take a snare for a bar - create a copy of the sequence, and in the new version delete the snare.

This is about the quickest way of copying a sequence I can think of. But you obviously aren't talking about that.

You are talking about altering/varying the sequence in realtime, like you can e.g. do very nicely with the Roland X0X-style sequencers or the Electribes. This is something the MPCs are not very good at. However, you would have to save your modified sequences on those other machines as well after all.

Dunno about the 2000, but on the 500 you hold erase and press the pad you want to delete while recording.

I wwas actually wondering how to get a track within the sequence copied to another track in another sequece. On an MpC 3000.

haha,..nah. How would i erase a note on my synth tho like i can erase a sample on the mpc?

Same way. Hold ERASE and press the key of your keyboard on the synth.
