A friend's brand new MPC1K is having a problem where it seems to power off after 10 or 15 minutes, then freezes up when switched back on. It has a 120GB HDD installed with the AKAI HD-10 mounting kit, and I'm pretty sure it's still running the OS it shipped with.

Has anyone heard of something similar, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Sorry, but I'm bumping this as I'm sure someone here has some useful advice and I kind of need to find out soon (I sold him the MPC).

We just had a thread on this. Check back a page or so.

Might be an internal short, loose screw touching metal where it shouldn't etc.

But if it's "new" that means it's under warranty, right?

Send it back.

Thanks I'll check for the other thread. I did UTSE, but couldn't find anything exactly the same, but there were so many I may have missed something.

It was sold to him new, but I imported it from the US and we are in NZ, so we are trying to avoid sending it back under warranty because of postage costs.

*ed* I checked the last 10 pages, but can't find it... do you remember any details I could enter in the search? Cheers man.

Did this problem start when he installed the HD? I am only asking for future personal reference....

I know this has prob been covered 1 buzillion times, but isn't 120 a little much for this?

Thanks elektrik, although that thread deals with quite a different issue. There is a link in it that seems like it may be relevant.

The HDD was installed by the seller in the US (hiphoptools), and I also am wondering if it has been installed incorrectly or is faulty, I'll ask the dude to take it out and check.

Cheers.
