someone told me you ONLY can use the Akai products, like the RAM and floppy drive etc. I used a floppy from an old pc which seems to work fine, anyone know if it would be ok to just use this RAM?

Euhm...dunno bout ram and all that but floppy drives are not akai floppy drives if you think that. In my xl I had a TEAC drive and in my 60 I had a Mitsubishi drive. A specific TEAC works aswell with the 60...

ye course, but you get the people who will "repair" your mpc for a mear £10000000 and thats all they say; you need the right parts from akai or the machine will blow up etc..(overexagurated).

I just want to get some RAM and change it and sort my scsi out so the mpc doesn't bloody freez up all the time.

Yes you can.

Any Memory that is the same pin will work almost with the XL there not picky. Only 2500, 1000, 500 are picky.
