Reason, n a lil bit of Logic............

Aiite heres the deal:

My homey picked up a macbook pro at the apple store, now while we was at the apple store my buddy mentioned he n i make beats, and the dude at the apple store suggested we invest in Logic studio 8, he mentioned it was better than pro-tools, n rewires with reason like a dream....We discussed it and decided we would go half on the program....So while my buddy is playing around with his new macbook, im goin over the manual for logic....


I get to the part where the rewiring comes into play but my question gets a bit tricky....

My homey n I produce our tracks on a mpc, n we use reason as sound racks.....We use redrum for drums n all that, n use the mpc to sequence.......

I figured out how to get the reason sounds outta logic, but when were done with a beat, we sequenced everything on the mp, now we wanna record it to Logic.....How do we go along recording the midi from the MPC to Logic??????


BTW we using a M-audio USB Audiophile interface......

We got the midi out from the MPC goin to the midi in of the interface.....

logic is a totally capable replacment for reason. you get all there fancy instrument in the box, and the exs sampler is great for drums. why not just track your mpc outs into logic, like you would with any other DAW. and make ya drums in there.

Here's how I would do it anyway:

I like being able to do "live" drop-outs, track mutes, etc. as I'm tracking a beat, so, assuming that you had all your sounds coming from reason, rewired into logic, and your sequencing coming from the mpc, what I would suggest is to simply record the audio coming from reason into logic, and play the beat/record it "live" into logic.

I don't use Logic specifically, but I've done something similar with Reason and Digital Performer.

The best way would be to use the rewire rack and totally bypass the internal mixer in reason - route all your sounds from reason separately through the rewire "interface", and select them on separate tracks in logic. You can set up templates in each of the programs so that when you start a new beat/track out all of these connections are already there too.

Once you have this set up, you should see levels coming through in the logic tracks when you play the beat sequenced on your mp. Make sure none of the levels are clipping.

Assuming this is all ok, record enable each track in logic, push record, and then push play on the MPC! If all is well then youre gonna be recording the sounds from reason, sequenced by the MP - you can do track mutes, changes sequences, do drops, etc., "on the fly"

Of course, make sure that your MPC midi is somehow synced with the Logic and Reason MIDI, either through MTC or Midi beat clock (I think thats the 2). That way, everything should fall on beat if the tempo is set properly in logic.
