mpc 1000 and turntable.

Been producing hiphop for about 2 years now. I would like to step up my sampling game as i haven't really done any. I think i've decided on the mpc1000 as i cant afford the mpc4000 and would like the usb connectivity. Is this the right way to go?

Also i'm on a budget but are there any recommendations as to which turntable i should buy for sampling vinyl? Do i need to buy a mixer or can i plug the turntable straight into the mpc1000?

Any help is greatly apprieciated.

If your on a limited budget and want USB connectivity the 1000 is definitely cool. If you go that route I recommend getting a compact flash reader/writer for your PC too.

I started with the 1000, and when I got my funds up I copped a 4k, so nothings written in stone you can always upgrade later if you want to.

As far as turntables are concerned...Yes...you do need a mixer or pre amp with a phono in. However there are turntables on the market with pre-amps built-in. With those types you don't need a mixer or pre-amp...the sound levels are already boosted for you...so it's like plug and play. I do suggest getting a mixer though so you can EQ your samples before they get to the MPC.

Turntables are not my specialty....if it works....cool...that's my thinking! But the standard is a Technics 1200 turntable, but there very pricey. I think numark and stanton have some dope turntables for cheaper. Just whatever you get...try and get something that's direct drive and has a pitch adjustment fader or knob, and you'll be straight.

if you want a table just for sampling purposes a cheapo like stanton/numark is fine, just make sure its got direct-drive. Don't waste your money on tech 12's if you're not getting them for dj purposes. I don't much about tables with pre-amps built in cause I've always had a mixer.

Usually with the cheaper turntables you need a mixer. since majority of turntables are phono out only.

Why should he go for a direct drive if he's only going to use it for sampling? Belt drives are cheaper and might have a little longer startup time, not exactly a big matter when sampling...

well the 1200's are nice....but they only give you a +8-8 pitch ratio....the vestax pdx's will give you a +50-50 pitch ratio but aren't made as well as the technic...so the question is: do i wanna be able to change the pitch of the sounds i wanna sample off of my turntable....?and if so, how much?

if you are gonna sample vinyl, get a mixer
even a cheap one is better than nothing

If you want a table that you don't need a mixer for I would go get the Stanton Str-80. Its got digital outs you can filter right into your computer.
