I agree with the 600$ -almost urban legend- 2kxl price tag on ebay. I was looking for mine for over 4 months on almost every single national ebay store and the cheapest I got was $850+s/h for a brand new basic one. And that would be the 2004 model with the green screen, not the old school orange screen, original coming with a zip drive. People over at ebay know exactly what they are selling and they ain't giving it away just like that.

Personally, mine gots right now an Eb-16, 8 outs, SMPTE chip, Mutec MFC, 32 RAM and soon a 9,1GB HD. What price should that reach? I think definetely more than $1800. And yes, mine right now has almost reached an urban legend status with all that equipped, for which I paid no less than the actual price of the machine itself. The only thing I got cheap was the Mutec MFC for which I paid 200$ cause the guy was accepting only bank transfer and nobody bidded on that. So, check for those deals with no paypal, if you can handle the risk.

I picked my MPC200XL SE-3 for $585 a BUY IT NOW price. The guy selling it claimed the pads did not work properly, they did. the Zip drive itself did not work, which he also said. No problem there though, I replaced it with a MCD.

trust me you can find cheap ass mpcs on ebay, you just have to be patient and watch auctions daily. i got my 2000xl in pretty much brand new condition a few months back with 8 outs, mcd, scsi cd rom, max ram for 550. then i picked up my friend a blue xl for 710 in excellent condition as well. the key is to look for auctions where the person listed their item quickly or poorly, then watch and watch until the last second. for example, search on ebay for "mpc2000xl", "mpc 2000xl", and "mpc 2000 xl" and i guarantee that you will come up with different listings that you didnt see before. the guy who sold me mine listed it with a weird title that was hard for people to find, therefore not a single bid was placed, all i had to do was wait and make the first bid for 550 and it was mine. also, look for listings that end on a weekday, not saturday or sunday, being that sunday between 8-10 is the heaviest traffic time for ebay, so the listings are going to get way more views and way more bids. you just gotta be ebay savvy and have some patience! look a few times everyday and eventually it will pay off.

I looked at the guys feedback, he buys and sells gear all the time. Speaking of feedback, he never left any for me.

well they dont make things like they used to. i got my 2kxl-mcd a month ago in australia for $1549 witch is about the same price the 1000 going for over here. i happy with my choice.

in france , 2 years ago I've paid 800 euros for a 2000xl MCD..

I had to buy 32Mb and 8 outs... that means more than 1000euros..


i hope ull buy one if you find one, i had a 1000 for several months and the pads the sound isnt better than the 2k...worse in fact..

even with its slower processor the 2k worth it..

its not a fisher price techno toy like the new ones, its a reliable > 10 years old design..

get the 8outs if you can...it changes your life...dont trust the PC and digital mixing... get a life. get real

got my blue 2000XL-MCD 32MB with 9.1 HD installed (appears to be the very one shown by LunaticBastard above). In fact it seems my seller bought that one and resold the it just days after receiving it himself, perhaps hoping to get a profit - it only went for US$690 with $70 postage to Australia. Works perfectly until the hardrive crashed, as I'd mentioned in another thread. now taken HD out, don't really need it for now.

i do recommend asking questions of the seller and requesting a photo of the item with some sort of proof of ownership (ie: username written on paper next to the item). There'd been a number of scam artists listing mpc2000xl's for 1 day @ .99, with free international shipping from europe, claiming they were new in boxes, when you contacted them they'd off a buy it now price, saying they'd register it with eBay insurance after payment (lies lies lies) and recommend you pay through a credit union. I've done my best to report them every time.

when searching for mpc's on ebay not only run key word searches but category searches: samplers, drum machines etc. not that there's much margin for error in spelling, but even the stupidest seller should get the category right - although right now i'm watching some ortofon concorde pro styli, no one's seen them as ortofon is spelt wrong and they're in the wrong category.
before buying my mpc, i'd run a search worldwide on 'akai mpc' and save that so i don't have to type it in everytime then arrange it by highest price first (so you don't have to look through pages of digital delivery sample auctions), then re-arrange to 'used first'. to exhaust all possibilities you need to search "mpc 2000" "mpc2000XL" "mpc2000 XL" "mpc XL"

that hdd was almost new. you sure it crashed or did it just glitch or something?
