What exactly Is the MPC for really??

Hey guys, im kinda new to this MPC thing ive had it for like 4 months now. Ive learned alot through the time. I got a couple question for you guys though.

What exactly is the MPC used for in producing music?

Can you acutlly even make your own drum sounds? if so how? are you taking it from a differnt song first?

Correct me if im wrong but is it true that the MPC just mixes and maniplates the song you want to sample to form a new song?

Im looking for a device that i can make my beat/music from scratch. is the mpc right for me?

How would i go about makeing my own drum sounds.

i mean this in the nicest way possible, but don't ask those questions... you need to do some serious reading about it.

Let me put it that way, MPC is an sampling drum machine with ambitions. You could create your sounds from lifting beats and notes of other songs but that is for example not my way. When samplers where available the first time they where advertised to create music out of every available sound around you and this is what I do. When I got my first one in 1987 I started to sample my whole kitchen (coffeemachine, waterdrops etc) and created sounds with it by filtering and pitching them. Recently I created a whole drumset just out of some seconds of the crackling noise of a foil, inclusive bassdrum.
Back to the MPC, you usually put single beat/ note / noise samples on the pads, sometimes even several ones to mix, but seldom whole loops or songs (although its possible).

the mpc is exactly what they say it is..a sequencer/sampler..
no way, shape, or form to create sounds out of thin air..
recording live drums, layering etc. is a different story..
do some research.

to own a mpc is strictly for bragging rights, there is no real use to them other than that

MAKEING your own drum sounds is as easy as USEING spell check

well, i dont know of any instrument that you can jsut make your own sound out of thin air...you need to start with a noise first, and then if you want to manipulate its pitch, length etc...an mpc can do that...

but mainly its jsut used for picking up chiciks "yeah i have an mpc, ill let you see it after we have sex" they love that one
