Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Ok so...

I just got my MPC500 (im loving iit...) and with it, i also got 2gb flash card and 128mb of extension RAM.

MPC works fine, I tried some demo songs and messed around with the pads etc. BUT

when i install the 128mb RAM, first the machine rebooted randomly. I took the memory out and tried again...no problems. I shoved the memory back and the machine went nuts (flashed all kinds of menus on the screen).

i think i managed to install the memory propely because the mpc flashed 128mb at startup

so...bad ram?

:<

+ what is the down side of having 16mb of ram and is the 128mb ram chip useless when i already got the 2 gb flash card ?

Hey totrOX, welcome to mpc-land! :D

Not sure what your problem is, certainly sounds like bad ram to me... Did you get it new or second hand? From a reliable source? Mine came preinstalled so have had no issues.

As for whether you need it, depends on what you wanna do with your mpc... the flash card is only for storing all your samples and sequences etc (not just the ones on your current sequence or program), the ram is what you use up for your current sequence or program, the samples are played from the ram, not the internal memory.

Thank its great to finally have the MPC!

I ordered everything from Thomann (Germany) and i still have the package it came in + the return form so i think im gonna send it back.

Good thing is that the memory extension came in an entire separate package so i dont have to send anything else back.
