need help fantom xr w/ 2000xl

alright i have everything setup with the audio and midi cables. so i go to record a midi track on the 2000xl on device 1-a with the sound i like, everything goes good. so i wanna record another track with a diffrent sound so i set the 2000xl to another midi track with device 2-a and choose a diffrent sound. but it changes the sound from the first track. i notice that there is also the bottom left screen on the fantom XR a place to change channels, so i change the sound i want to channel 1 and record with device 1-a. i then choose another sound and switch it to channel two and record on device 2-a. but the sound from channel 1 doesnt play. there wasnt much about hooking the fantom up with a sequencer in the manual. basically i just need to know how to record diffrent sound patcches at the same time. i hope you understand my problem and can help me out. Ill try messin with it a little more, gets frustrating my first time using the fantom. If anyone has a link to solve this problem thad help too. I appriciate it.

thanks, i think i got it figured out now. theres some shit called performance mode on the fantom. got it to do what i was tryin. but thanks for the help
