MEssin' with my chops...

Ok... Here's the deal homeboys... I have had my 1000 for like a week now... I love the damn thing...

I have some nice orchestra and piano samples that I pulled from youtube... I have them trimmed up perfectly so that they are looping just right... when I go to shop them up, I slice them into 16 regions and such... when I find a nice sequence, it doesn't sound right.... almost like the shops aren't long enough and it doesn't sound fluent.

What's the best way to take each chop and manipulate them to make them longer??

Pitch shift doesnt alter the length of a sample.

Pitching down the sample would help, but sometimes you dont want the sample to play lower.

Try either the timestretch or look into the the JJ OS and alternate looping the tail

Np, but this term gets misused too often.
Pitch shift is pitching+timestretching to keep the length the same.

mhmm..well i wasn't even aware the 1k was capable of time stretching without shifting the pitch..lol..what os you running rinse?

Timestretch was introduced on the akai os 2 afaik

nice, im on jjs os1 too..can you do it on jj too? if so, how?

Read the manuals, Akai first, then the JJ´s...


Its an offline operation from the trim mode

well I'm actually running jjos 1 4.98. It does timestretch... I will mess with it more... What do you mean axcatly by alternate looping the tail?

Like I want my hummmms to alst longer... like maybe 2 or 3 beats longer... for that soulful east coast chop... I will mess with the timestretch a little for the time being.

Play around in the loop section of trim and you'll find it.

Amateurama, do you even own a MPC 1k? Really, not being funny, but it's RIGHT THERE in the trim mode. You said pitch shift alters the length of the sample??

I wasn't aware the data wheel was functional in trim mode is all..anyway, I figured it out obviously..

Yes, changing the pitch in program mode did seem to lengthen/speed up the sample for me.
