hello! this can maybe seem stupid for a question.. but I just want to be sure!!!
I've bought a midi keyboard to go with my mpc but what I have is a pc sound card ''sound blaster audigy platinum ex" with midi in and midi out on it... And I am wondering, on a lot of threads and videos people are talking about crazy sound cards, audio interface, mixers.... my question is, is my little sound card witch has all these plugs called an audio interface and is in one way the same as a mixer ... Am I allright equipment wise if I want to plug my mpc with my keyboard and use Reason as a sound mod... or I really need a mixer?

thanks
tell me if this is mixing you up

What kind of keyboard is it? You cant use the USB and MIDI OUT on it at the same time. It doesn't work like that. I recommend you get a power supply for it and use the MIDI OUT on it.

MIDI Controller MIDI OUT>MPC MIDI IN
MPC MIDI OUT>PC MIDI IN
PC MIDI OUT>MPC MIDI IN

Thats how i have my stuff connected.

ok thanks that really helps... it's an M-adio 61-es!! and I didnt really understand that power suplly thing you mentioned, what do you mean by that? for the rest everything looks good from my point of view. And I supose Reason can detect the mpc and keyboard through the midi cable going from the soundcard to my mpc?

You are correct.....

She was referring to the use of batteries for the keyboard... You are more than likely using a power supply for it.. so you are fine there. Your cpu program can act as a mixer, but as Nicole stated, there is no need for a mixer with your setup.

Your soundcard should work fine for you....

Any if them should work, But I do not have any experience with DAW's so I am just guessing. Since most DAW's understand MIDI, you should be good to go.
