EQ Tips

What frequencies you work with. Drop some tips on how you eq to get a good sound. Roll off where? Raise what? Cut below what? Boost where?

I would love some tips and im sure others will too.

most def start checking out your sounds in a freq analyzer, that way you can start kinda hearing frequency zones, like bass I know thats anywhere from 20hz and below, which i would roll off somewhere on the low end of the freq range, to around 200 - 600hz, if a pretty thick bass has a little bit of high end I'd start rolling off around 600 and come down a bit, and maybe raise a little in the 50 -80hz range to add a little thump

Sounds are pretty much harmonics which consist of frequencies so you can get a narrow Q (the range of freqs of your raise or reduce that it affects the lower the gain the larger the curve the higher the more narrow that curve is) and pretty much push the gain all the way to the max and sweep (go across the freq range, parametric eq is best) the eq range till you either hear the sweetness of the sound you want to bring out by either adding gain (you can also do the opposite and take out the frequencies that are muddying up that sweet spot by rolling off/reducing/etc) or you can sweep till you hear a part of the sound you want to get rid of and reduce it

aight thanks. yea i love flowers wit the parametric eq. thats one of my favorites.

heres some shit in simple terms, you got your mixer board, you got a bassline, a snare, a kick, and hi hats, running to different channels, just cut the unwanted frequencies for each channel. for instance on the sanres cut everything except the mid, on the hats cut everything except the highs, the bass everything but the low, etc, this lets all the sounds come through with no mixed frequencies.

how much does the 8 outs upgrade cost? isnt that what you need to do something like that dove?

you dont need the 8 outs. it just makes life easier.

just make sure that youre tracking each sound to its individual track.

i dont have the 8 outs so it takes me anywhere from 40 mins to over an hour to track out ONE beat.

8 outs just makes it convienent.

i think its like 250 bones but it wont do you any good unless you have a soundcard with anything more than one line in

well, i used to record to cassette on my 488 (tascam), but since i got my laptop i record directly to my laptop. everything runs thru my mixer first, then into my laptop.

How would I track each sound to an individual track? i use c.e.p. btw.

to track out the beat with 2 outs, and have em fall in line (might get messy if you have samples that overlap bars) you would use MMC, im gonna assume CEP is like Pro Tools, so midi out from your comp to midi in 2 on the MPC, set the MPC to receive MMC, set CEP to send MMC and press play on CEP, solo each track and thats it.
