MPC 2000 scsi issues

Hi,

I have just purchased a 2000 and it has come with a iomega zip. The MP doesn't recognise any scsi port, so I cannot save any work, just have to track it to PT. But obviously I would like to run the external to save onto disk. When I first got it, I was plugging in and out various leads etc while the unit was on. Do you think I have done a fuse or is the the zip? I have the switches in the correct position on the zip and it doesn't recognise any scsi channel.
Also does anyone know of any repairer in Australia?

Firstly - I think you mean SCSI ID when you write "SCSI channel". If I'm wrong correct me.
Secondly - when you try changing cables for your ZIP drive and always leave MPC ON, it will never recognize any drive. You have to turn MPC OFF while switching SCSI cables unfortunately.
Thirdly - if it's your only SCSI drive hooked to the MPC , remember to turn ON the TERMINATION.

Yes i do mean the scsi ID there and yes i did have it on when switching channels and unplugging, plugging cables in.
So, do you think that the fuse is gone? How would i know if it's the fuse?

The possibilities of why the scsi drive not recognized can be:

- bad zip drive (make sure it is a scsi. usually 2 switches between the ports)
- bad cable
- bad scsi port

Not sure if you have experience using your MPC but . . . to check scsi port

With the MPC off, find another 'working' scsi zip drive and plug into the scsi port of your MPC2000. With the zip drive powered on and a zip disk in it, next boot your MPC. When the sampler has booted, do a 'shift load' and scroll thru the id. it should be recognized on scsi id 5. This will be your check on the scsi port.

other thoughts . . .

- fasten your cables for a good contact

- if all else fails, have it checked out by a service tech.

Yeah it's the right type of drive as it has the two switches. I just think the drive doesn't work, the disk won't even sit in it. I bought the MPC and drive second hand.
so i am thinking i will get a new drive and try out what has been suggested.
