first timer

hi guys im new to this site, and need of guidance im about to purchase a mpc 1000 , so what is could i get complement the 1k ? thanks in advance any help would be nice.

i need help wiht building a small studio, im purchasing a mpc1k in a few weeks and need to know what slse can use with the 1k far as recording, mixers if needed,programs, etc.etc. thank you in advance..

What style of music are you looking to make? Using the mpc for sample based music, or to make beats only? Etc, etc, etc!

sample beats and non sample beats, I jus wanna be creative wit everything ya know .

Simple set up would be a turntable, phono preamp, vinyl, mpc and monitors. Upgrades would be a DAW and a soundcard with a pc / mac for tracking and mixing your beats - there are countless threads on what soundcards and DAWs are best. Adding a synth (microkorg seems to be the budget synth of choice these days but check out ebay for deals) for bass parts, pads, leads would be another upgrade. A mixer makes things easier on workflow but not a necessity.

If your budget is real tight you can get cracking making tunes with nothing more than an ipod / cd player, your mpc and a pair of cheap headphones.

Again, the sky is the limit.

thanks for tha info ghost man this sounds like a good thing to get in to ya know creatin music, iv been reading this forum and watchin youtube vids and i feel like i can do this, 2 be apart of somthing thats truly some tight shyt, hittin them pads i see u cats doing ur thing im feelin it too, just by wathin and reading, learning what to do and what not to do.... I can see its going to be a long process but i see its worth it..always open for suggestions thanks..

To kinda piggyback off of Ghost: I have a few pieces, but so far I have been able to do most of my stuff with a cpu, MPC, and Headphones...... With the correct cables and plugs, you can do alot with that simple setup.. The MPC is a ver powerful tool.

Remember this is only a recommendation and not the only way to do it.... But since you are just starting, do not try to go for the home run, work your way up to perfection, but you will notr know what you want from it until you start and have a fairly good understanding of the entire process.


There are a few of us that are newe around here, and we are all trying to grow together, sdo keep checking in and try to read as much literature as you can find on the subject. Remember you do not need new stuff, I just got a decent keyboard from my local Pawn Shop for a great price... It is an older model, but way more than I need right now. I am giving myself a year to need to update to a more current model... I am using a Casio WK1630 (I paid $60 with free stand) and it has a 30 money back guarantee... Ebay can be your friemd as well, but more of a gamble in some cases, but def keep ya eyes open for deals.

Def check out Mnh's (Nicole) blog, there are alot of nice links posted on there..... I have gotten a mint of info from her blog.

Keep it fun, if it is not enjoyable then why do it...... When the frustration sets in (It will believe me) just take a break from it for a day or 2 and come back to it.... I learn somethin new about it everyday..... And yes some of the youtube vids can be helpful to see what you can do with an MPC...... Try to use all of the tools that web offers, but do not rely on them....


And share your info with a newbie, it feels good.

i just picked me up a axiom 49 midi keyboard i know it doesn't have any sound what could i use with the midi key board and im still waiting on my mpc1k it should be here by next week...its cming from guitar center and i was wondering would it have the new pads everyones talking about ?

how would i know what to look for when i go up there cause i have money on it and im going to pick it up in 2 weeks so i wanna be sure..thanks man
