I have a problem.
I use midi keyboard to record midi notes through the pc into mpc2000xl. I do it like that because of the setup and don't want to switch cables.
setup is:
mpc MIDI OUT to PC MIDI IN,
midi keyboard OUT to pc MIDI IN,
PC has MIDI THROUGH and re-sends midi notes from keyboard to the mpc
Now, when I have a melody recorded on a separated track in the mpc, let's say Track 1 and then bass recorded on Track 2, I want mpc to replay these notes with vst instruments in Cubase. Different vst for melody and different vst for bass.
I set Track 1 in mpc to send notes to vst instrument (melody) on MIDI channel 1 and Track 2 to send notes to vst intrument (bass) on MIDI channel 2.
The same in Cubase - midi track 1 receives notes only on channel 1 from the mpc, midi track 2 receives notes only on channel 2 from the mpc.
The problem is, when I press PLAY on mpc, I can hear both vst instruments, but the interrupt each other. There are double notes and sometimes they cut off each other. It sound like they were on the same MIDI channel, but they are not.
Now, as far as I understand it, it doesn't matter on which MIDI channel the keyboard is (it's on 1 by the way), since I record notes to the mpc and re-send these notes to Cubase on channels I choose. I checked on MIDI OUT MONITOR in the mpc and it sends notes on separate channels, so it should be ok theoretically.
If anyone has time to read this : ) and can help - any thoughts ?
