actually mods don't move this post, as it's kind of jj vs 5000 specific now

mik i created a new post for the laughs, and the anticlimactic nature of 9999 posts on Antonym. also, so people would stop referring to me as "Ant" (atmosphere's producer)

i don't understand the need of a what amounts to a softsynth inside an mpc. you know? the ad describes it as "not relying on external units" (but a studio w/ bones to throw around 3500 will also have external units) "or buggy softsynths" (HAHHAH can akai talk about bugs??? i've come across hundreds of bugless soft synths)

and yeah, we DO have a softsynth already in the 1000. we need loop crossfades to make it all the better. but think - we can load any sample of a waveform up into the mpc have enormous synth control over it. maybe i'm speaking too soon (always a maybe) but i dunno.

Kind of makes all the synth stuff JJ's putting into OS2 a bit of a snip at only $39.

this is the biggest, quietest thing. workflow on jj os's is NICE.
remember, who is coding the 5000???
some things sound great, but does it have adsr control? a nice grid editor? qlink control of entire program? remember, the akai 2500/1000 only lets you run a qlink over 1 sample at a time...

yeah folks you got me
i'm actually jahromoe
odds are he's either back already under a different name or about to resurface because of the 5000

The MPC5000's virtual analog synth eliminates the need for external analog synth modules or buggy software based synthesizers.

Ha ha, that's very funny Akai. You should try a stand up routine next.

"VA" sux. The very term "Virtual Analog" was invented by an industry trying to cover up for the fact that they were too cheap and complacent to give users what they actually wanted. A digital synth is a digital synth. I agree that any real studio that can afford this box isn't gonna give a rodent's hindquarters about that feature. Wasted code space.

Then again it might all be wasted code space. Those other features look cool -- but only if they actually work. Given what we've seen from Akai so far there's no reason to believe that they will.

wasted codespace MAYBE. odds are if i had an in-box synthesizer (i mean ANOTHER one, i already have the jjos keygroup/sampler synth) i'd use it just because it's in the box. know what i mean? i move to reason and vsts only when i've semi-exhausted what i can do inside the mpc and need a different approach.

but really, that move isn't that difficult as it is, which is why i DO think that attention would have been better spent on interface and global control.

remember, GPE and the concept of "all" control only started with JJ. there's NO guarantee that the 5000 is going to have anything similar to the WHOLE button. then again it may have a nicer function, like one where you select multiple pads to edit by hitting them ALA the ctrl key in windows.

speculation, speculation. unfortunately, though it's interesting it actually doesn't matter to me at all - odds are i will never use the mpc5000

you bet. when JJ implements midi cc in control over QREAL and QLINK functions, we will be able to use our hands over a span of hopefully 1.5 feet while recording qreal curves.

akai being very shy about telling us the full specs... as usual .
such as, does the 5000 have an adat lightpipe in.
if it don't - it means you have an 8 trk hard disk recorder, which
only allows you to record internally or at best from the two main inputs.

also whats with the 192mb max system ram, this is rubbish - it's 2008!! PC's come with a standard 1gb ram - the 1000 has 128mb which is not far off.
just cos it has hard disk recording - they skimp on the ram.

built in synth - well ok nice, but big deal, do you need it? - if you already have synths, you don't. more ram would have been better instead of this gimmick.

wait few years - till they come down in price and with luck jj will be on the case sorting out the normal akai crippleware.

also CF Type-2 card slot (up to 2GB) what's with the 2gb limit (prob just covering their arses.)

honestly your getting more bang for buck with the 1000 and jj OS2

all jj needs to sus out, is how to hard disk record from a CF card. that would really put the cat amongst the pigeons

yea im not sure on this thing. Its a combo of all the mpcs. The cf slot is off a 1000 it looks like an inexpensive plastic like the 500. So far all im drooling over is the screen. WTF is ip with akai?

buying that thing would be like buying a luxury car with the mileage turned back..it looks nice..but it wouldn't be long before you realized what a waste of money it is..don't believe the hype..

too true - the MPC1000 is the best for power space - look at the size of that brick.
