Someone jacked a beat of mine!

I met an old homie and his peeps at his new recording studio in Long Beach about 8 months ago to show them my beats...I had like 50 beats on a CD, most of them short clips but a few of them were full length....they said they liked my beats and wanted me to be their in-house producer...I let them keep the CD. I haven't heard from them since, I tried calling them but they don't return my calls.....just last week I was checkin up on my hommiez myspace profile and he's got my beat up there with several rappers on it!!! I messaged him and he hasn't replied, I am very f%cking pissed off, what do I do?!?!

I don't think he's made money off of it, but the fact is he's using my beat without my permission!

That's what I'd do.

2 options....legal and not legal...

1 legal - have your copyrights, sit back and hope one of the rappers is actually good enough to go some where, then hope its one of your beats that helps get him where he gets....then take proper legal action....

or do it the old fashion way, option 2 not legal...Run up in his "studio" with a couple goons and make his studio yours....then duct tape a beat cd to his fawkin forehead...

It's really not that deep. Chances of them doing anything major is slim to none, and in that case, it makes no sense to create tention over a beat that's probably not going any further than myspace. I understand the principles, they could have at least asked, but I wouldn't even think about whooping a_s unless it's really needed. When you see them on MTV Cribs, then it's time to break legs.

maybe you dont take your music as serious, but way I see it the legal system does not always work in your favor therefore sometimes things have to be handled the ol fashion way....

Somebody tried screwing me over the same way.That's where ascap comes in. If they jack the beat and make any success they gotta drop some royalties my way and then I can take legal action against them for the rest of it.In my case the guy who tried that on me forgot he had signed a contract for the beat 6 months prior and cooperated after I sent him a copy of it I had kept for records.

harry hustle's idea works for me! Hope you learned a valueable lesson in this. (Wow I sound like a parent) Have all your copyrights in place. REAL copyrights. Not the "poor man" version. Then do as advised. Sit back and hope it gets big so you can sue the s*** out of them and get paid.

No...you're right you don't. What I was referring to is having protected music that gets stolen and his made a hit, in which case you CAN sue and receive a nice settlement. Read EVERYTHING before you put yourself out there like that.
