Overpriced 60's on Ebay...

Agreed, I think the market is flooded with cheap mpcs. When they are all broken, people will be clamoring for 60s and 3000s again. Looking at the spec sheets, someone without firsthand experience will probably assume that they'd much rather have a 500, 1000, 2000 for $500 bucks than a 60.

Bottom line is, if you want a 60, buy one now. The price can't get too much lower, especially with upgrades. Hardware in general is kinda low right now.

I've seen several decent 3000s go for under a grand lately, probably mostly due to Christmas, but that's still pretty wild.

I'm happy to pay a grand for a mint 60 with all the upgrades, really clean ones just don't surface all that often.

yep...a g for a mint 60 w/all upgrades is reasonable.

Word! That is a score. I've nabbed a few cheap ones over the years and I kept two absolutely minty ones for myself. The 60II is my favorite too, it looks like a Dr. Who missile command console. I'd buy 'em up until I was dead broke for $550 though. That is damn fine machine with lots of time and energy into its design.

I bought an sp1200 from the US for a crazy price because I was naive and it was so beaten up you can't believe it. all buttons were worn out and had to be changed, i still have to service it because there are persistent noise problems.
I just can't believe how somebody could have actually done anything at all on it without going absolutely bananas. The record button only came on every 50 hits or so...

I bought a 60 in the UK and I only had to change the backlight and re-solder a couple of joints and it works great...

can someone gimme the run down on how much or what are the typical prices are for the SP, 60 and 3000???

decent condition.. im not really looking for MINT, just something clean, cuz im still gonna send it to forat for upgrades and a complete rebuild (no paint job, nothing beats the original gray paint).

SP's are about a grand
3000's are like 900-1200 and up for LE's and such
maxed out 60 like 850 and up

I bought a very good full spec (xcept scsi) mpc60 3 months ago for £500, a beaten up sp1200 (i was told it was in super condition - beware!) a while ago for $1100

Ruffed up SP: I wouldn't buy it.

You know you can search through completed listings on ebay. That will give a idea how much to pay.

I don't understand why people shell out that much for an SP when a 60/3K MIDId to an Emax gives you a similar sound w/ way more flexibility for less money.

SP has an awesome sequencer and its a different workflow then the mp60 and the EMAX. Emax's are cool b/c of the adjustable filters and lofi effects but they are two different machines to me.

I think the Emax is great if you can get really familiar with it. It doesn't look as cool as the sp1200 though...

SP is king! It's great to have everything in one machine too. Save it all to one single disk, mix the whole thing in it. I would not have a rack sampler and another sampler instead. If I wanted only the sound I would sell my 1200 and use the 3000 to sequence an Emax.

I got my SP1200 pretty cheap (Norway is stupid expensive on used gear), $1200 in GREAT (I would say mint) condition, only missed one fader knob. I have now received replace buttons. The faders on my SP are really smooth. Display like new. Almost never used by either of the two previous owners. Mix volume knob has a little bit of static, but it goes away after turning it for a minute or so.

I have only owned it for about two months now, and I am absolutely in love with it. I'm glad I am still broke because I bought it.

Nice, I always wondered what the deal with sp's is cause mostly it's gritty sound and all that, but other devices can achieve this aswell (not the exact same grit maybe). When nowadays you look at the price for one of those it's like dayum! Glad you love your machine man.

Speaking of vintage equipment, I bough an s950 of ebay (a hardware store in Belgium) for around 450$ + s/h. Now, somebody would say that it was way too overpriced but believe me, when I saw the unit it was so MINT that you could easily mistaken it for a BNIB. And taking into account that it's 20 years old, I still can't figure out where the hell they managed to find it in such pristine condition. So, sometimes you pay much but you get even more.
