SR-18 and XR-20 are the same machines

This is just pathetic. I guess there still a few people that think they're separate companies. Add this to the 5000 dibocal and you got one desperate company.

Read the specs for both before you post. They are the exact same machines under two brands - owned by the same parent company.

The differences are cosmetic only. If you looked at layout they are matched button for button. IMO that's deceptive to customers shopping for gear.

is it wrong to think that layout counts?
specs aren't everything, maybe some people find it easier to play 2 rows of 6 buttons than 4 rows of 3. if you're going to spend money on an instrument, why not have options?

They are meant as an upgrade to the retro Akai-10 and Alesis HR-16. They also contain the original drum sounds(they differ between both machines) plus new ones aswell.

That's just more or a marketing aspect than reality.
It's easy to accomplish since very few people would own them both.

They will be marketed as different sounds but are actually the same.
Sometimes companies rename and re-arrange them, but they are still the same sounds or have just a slight tweak.

Just the fact that the XR20's pad buttons light up makes the user experience wholly different. Also I have a feeling they might not be MPC pads in the SR18 but rather something more along the lines of the SR16. Think I read that in there actually? The Sr-16, by the way is the ACTUAL model this device is updating, not the HR-16 which is from the late 80's. The SR16 has been around, unchanged for 16-17 years and is an awesome work-horse, especially for solo musicians.

I did read the specs, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything. Kinda wonder how many people do that around here, in general though, so I don't blame you for assuming I didn't.

yo on the real, when i first seen that xr20, I thought about the oldschool alesis drum machines.

I have no interest in copin that sh!t so I dont really care about it.

That's the reason why they created the ION product line of cheaper cloned Numark products to sell in store chains that couldn't qualify for Numark products.
There are so many marketing schemes going on right now it's a shame.

Have you read the specs? Where's the SR-18's mic in? How about its note repeat button? Light up pads? They also have different samples.

They may be based on the same tech but they are different enough, that's why the SR-18 is cheaper.
