usb turntables

Trying to pick a usb turntable to start sampling some vinyl. But i dont know if I should get the Numark TTUSB or the gemsound GT-USB. Also what cartidges do you guys recommend?

I have and use the NUmark TTUSB's and they work pretty well. YOu cannot scratch with them, but using them for sampling is a good idea. They are belt driven, therefore the torque is not there. BUt Like I said it gets the job done. As far as cartridges go, I am using Shure White Label. I truly believe the cartridge stylus combo makes the iggest difference whe n it comes to basic playing of vinyl.

here's another question when people sample vinyl do they like
record there sample onto the computer and change it to .wav format and then put it on their MPC or is there a way you can directly put it into your MPC if so how? In using the 1k sorry if this a total dumb question.

i sample all my shyt from cd, i like the clean-ness of it, but i'm a dj and ive used my fair share of turntables, the stanton t 90's are cheap and they have a usb connection, great quality and u can scratch.

its best to just sample with the turntable plugged straight into the mpc, that how most people do it, the mpc converts the sample into .wav for you, also the sound quality will be better than sampling via usb.

You should only do that if the turntable has a built-in preamp with a Line level output.

so if I got the numark ttusb how would I plug it in to directly record cuz I'm gonna go to a guitar center and I want to buy all the right cables and stuff.

Most turntables do not have a built in amp so a DJ mixer or some other type of mixer is needed to make the signal from the turntables usable.... The Numark TT's come with Audacity that enables you to convert the vinyl to wave or MP3. YOu would then use a Headphone to RCA adaptor to connect the MPC to your CPU and go from there.... It the Turntables you buy actaully have a built in Amp you can plug them direclty into the MPC and record straight from that. You will also need RCA to 1/4 adaptors to plug the TT into the MPC..... I hope this info helps.


I use both methods to sample, I prfer to do it off the CPU since it is ezier and in most cases a cleaner sample. Sampling scratching is the main reason for NEEDING a turntables these days.

you need some type of pre amp (phantom power) to strengthen the singal coming out of turntable.

you gonna need pair or RCA cables to connect turntable to mixer. then RCA to 1/4 inch to connect mixer to the MPC.

unless you got USB TT sample on the computer, and transfer files over USB to your mpc

What most people tend to forget is that you don't only need to amplify the signal, but it needs to be modified/EQ'ed in the right way as well, or it will be distorted (RIAA curve).

The TTUSB actually has a built-in preamp.
