I finally found and understand the chopping of samples!

I have only had my machine since June and I busted my tail trying to understand sampling and it takes a lot reading these forums, reading the book and just plain reading!!! So now that I have found everything, I am in MPC heaven! I am in complete awe of this machine. My sound has no boundaries now. I hope to get my sound on the net some how but I still have some issues to work out like instrument program creation and looking for the correct piece to sample to chop!

I really wanted to say thanks to all for their input into these forums. Even though I never really asked the question of how (and if I did I never got an answer) but any how. Reading everyones input to certain questions is what helped.

For the n00bs that are on here. Alls you have to do is read these forums and you will find the answer here some how. That's all it was for me.

Wow, can't believe I found how to work with chops!

Golden rule for all these repeating questions!

But if it takes six months to find the answers you're looking for, when you're surrounded by people who can help you but won't, and the search function is of no help at all, what good is that? That's the problem with most forums I've been to, especially ones as specific as this one.

Not to mention that the JJ website is unintelligible. That doesn't help either.

You have to know how to use it properly, try different combinations of words, that's very important. Sometimes you just change one word and search results come up from nowhere. This board itself right now is a huge knowledge base, I find it useful most of the time when I need some info. Not always, believe me, but most of the time, even by using only the archive topics.

select a forum to search from on the left as well... i think most people just type a word in the search engine and don't take the time to weed through the results... the answers are out there. and newbies aren't going to get treated like royalty anywhere.

Separate all the keywords with "and" and you should have better luck finding what you want.....

Congrats to the OP for finding the light,....... I am still searching..... I hope you marked the path so it can be ezier for me....

Good to see people helping themselves to the knowledge here.
Much respect!

Well I don't. I go through pages and pages of results. And I don't expect anyone to treat anyone like royalty, but if someone makes an honest attempt to understand something and they still need help, they should be treated with respect.

But it doesn't matter b/c I'm returning my MPC today. It's not what I was hoping for.

i'm curious, what did you end up learning?

I wonder if people who complain about the archives realise the detriment they cause by diluting it with new posts of questions that have been answered a gazillion times. There's a lot of info there that gets lost among the "why ain't there any sound coming out of my MIDI axe?" posts.

Also, if this forum is your only source of info you're gonna have problems (aimed at no one on particular).

What I finally got was the way to get a sound to chop correctly which I was unable to do. Allowing auto chop was still not getting me the result I was look for (sometimes my chops were coming in low??) and once I could get it in my head that the sampled sound has to have a beginning so A will match with C and then mess with it to allow F to come into the frame work of what I was trying to create and make it sound good within the pattern and then make a choice of what drums I wanted to go with the sound I chopped. Not sure if it make sence but in my head it has.

To those that question the search function, I never said I used it but I have been here almost a year and just from reading what other n00bs are asking and then waiting for the piranha to show up and take a bite. But I do know how to use it because I read the "how to use this search function"
