Misconceptions you had about the 1K?

Slightly different spin on the 'tips' kind of thread... I thought that by listing some of the things you originally thought about the machine which then turned out to be wrong, we could both maybe find common mistakes and also provide a little extra information for those looking to make a purchase.

1) This may sound stupid, but then it's my first MPC - I thought that the "Timing correct" function was basically only processed on playback, while the original input note times were left unchanged. In reality, it actually does modify the sequence data.

2) I also thought you couldn't preview a sample before loading it; as TerroristProphecy pointed out, you can (after a fashion) by selecting "Do It" on the Load screen and then using the "Play...discard...keep" dialog. Managed to totally miss that one for 2 weeks!

3) Before buying it, I thought the effects were inserts rather than sends, and didn't realise that EQ was only accessible by using up one of these two send slots. Ah well, you can't have everything - still a great machine!

Yeah, did a fair bit of reading before buying but it was just that 3rd point I missed. It's all good though since EQing and that can just be saved until it's time to mix down properly - if nothing else, it stops me fine tuning too early and makes me work on the actual core of the beat!

Probably the biggest misconception that I had was to do with the 4 outs. I thought a whole track could be output through one of the outs, but it's only one pad.

The second, was real time effects with q-link. I thought you could do sweeps. Hopefully that will be fixed in a future update.

Nah, not track a whole beat, but output a whole track in a sequence out one of the 4 outs. It was my first piece of gear. I had a lot of misconceptions about a lot more than those though, believe me. I didn't even know about BPM's, boy that flowers me up pretty good when I first got my shit. I knew absolutely nothing. I had a lot of ideas and a lot of sounds, but damn I was really in over my head. I couldn't put together a proper sequence for a month.

So all you catz just starting out making beats...don't feel bad ya'll. Uncle Louey Knows!

Actually you CAN assign a whole track to one output, just assign every pad you use in that track to the same output...

Good point.. woulda thought that coulda messed up other tracks but how often do u use one pad in more than one track?
