I actually read the manual (believe it or not) several times. I wanted to see if certain features advertised is actually implemented. Hopefully this will give warm fuzzies to other potential buyers (or perhaps not).

But you are the man. I know who I am voting for in the primaries next month. SCD for President!

:D

Well, better leave me testing the mpc and alike. You don't want me to test all those nukes you still have in the US of A huh?

Of course I have read the manual too a few times now, and as far as I can see, all that's in there is in the mpc.

for the VA synth, is it multi-timbral or is it just one program that can use 20-voices. it would be cool if you can make 2 VA programs and just split the voices.

It is multitimbral. You can assign as many programs as you want, you are just restricted by the 20 voices.

Here is a little timestretch and pitchshift thingy:

http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/shesnot.mp3
1. normal
2. slowed down from 120 to 100 bpm (not the best algoritm choosen by me)
3. Pitchshifted down a few semitones
4. slowed down and pitchshifted down.

You have to play around with the various possible algoritms and quality settings but there is a solution for about every kind of noise.
This is one of the 5k features I like a lot. personally.

As for the effects, I ran through a lot of those tonight and think they are pretty good! Of course some are better then others, but most of them are very usable to shape your sounds. Delays are very nice, tremolos, pannings, filtersweeps etc too. Reverbs sound ok, but don't expect long ambient ones.

Eq's work well, compressors too. Phasers have too little parameters to my opinion. Will ask about that.

There is really more then enough for every user to dive into and experiment with. (Flangers, multitap delay, distortions etc. etc. And remember you can chain four of these effects).

Slightly off topic but who is the artist in the audio clip?

The manual states that it can load MPC 2000XL and 3000 .snd files in the load screen. Do you have any of the files to try to load into the MPC 5000?

No I don't. I've loaded 4k drumprograms and that goes ok.

Can the 5000 read project files from the 1k/2500?

No idea. I don't have the 1k/2500.
The manual says you can *save* programs in 1k/2500 format so it would make sense that you can load them too, but I can't find it in the manual (could be a manual bug).
Maybe someone can upload a programfile from one of those machines, so I can try?

In mixer mode, can you group/assign the q-link faders to the HD recorder outs? i.e. Fader One to channels 1+2, Fader Two to channels 3+4, etc?

Thanks for your help, btw. This is the first constructive thread in the MPC 5000 room.

At work right now, so I can't check if that is possible, but I don't think so. Good idea though. I will probably add this as feature request to the bugtracker then.
