Most do not get that impression. Actually if you hang out in the MPC3000/MPC60 forum, most there are in agreement that the other MPC's are really `pro` pieces and the MPC1000 is more for newbies. Look it up (and it was not me).

It was actually my studio but did not want to `show-off`, but I suppose I can see where owning 3 MPC's, 2 ASR-10's, Akai DPS, 2 Akai S-series, HR-824s, more synths than I can count, more effects than I can mount and many other supporting gear `not owning sh!t`. I'd post a pic but you would just need to look in the January 2000 issue of Keyboard magazine to see one of my stations in the studio.

You know mr. MPC3000, if I owned 3 MPC 3000's id probably call myself MPC3000 and hate on the MPC1000 in this forum just like you too. But it wasnt us who called this ish professional it was Akai. Just look on the front. I mean as far as a piece of equipment goes we could debate all day about what is professional and what is not. Still needs to function properly when purchased brand new. I didnt mean to get in your grill about what you own..sounds like you own a lot...I might just have to cop a issue of the January 2000 keyboard mag just to get a glimpse of your studio.

Not for nothing, it's an entry level piece at an entry level price, but I think they done a great job, because aside from manufacturing difficulties (they have to rush them out to meet the demand for the midget beast), it is really a great value for an mpc to be under 900 dollars, with all it is capable of and all that is included. I payed 1350 for my mpc2000 brand new in like '99, and it doesn't have a compressor, highpass filter, bit grunger, usb, etc. Some of you guys are really not appreciating all that they gave you for that price, look at the guys that paid 1299 for a roland sp808 back in the day and it's ALL PLASTIC...

On the one hand, I have personally called the MPC1000 a "newbie" MPC, but what I meant by that was: it's not gonna satisfy people used to the MPC3000 etc., and it falls down on the backwards compatibility question. I knew that before I paid money, it didn't bother me, since I'm an Akai newbie and don't need backward compatibility, and I have no other MPC to compare it with.
But that has nothing to do with own years of experience, with other kit, or the MPC1000's Pro status. That's my considered opinion after about three months of usage, coming into it fresh, leveraging what I already knew about MIDI, audio, etc. It doesn't do everything that some people want, especially experienced MPC users, but I think it does what it does very well.

no problems with my mpc1k exect being lopsided

The MPC1000 is so cheap. In the studio's I work at dropping 5 times that for a single piece of gear is nothing. You are not going to get a Mercedes at a Kia price.

I agree with mpc3000, although I don't consider the 2000/XL a pro piece, they cut it doen so DJ's and Newbies could afford it instead of the 3000. It is great machine, I think the only difference is when they made the 2000, the newbies knew more and weren't just any 14 year old kid.

I never said I owned 3 MPC3000's. Try it again. I would expect a little better from another Modular owner, since I know you are pretty smart to be able use it.

Huh? I've done a lot to support the MPC1000 community (and all MPC's for that matter). Open your eyes and look around before you stick your foot in your mouth, again.
The hate only seems to flow people that offer nothing but complaints about `lack of features` or `poor quality` from a <$1k piece of gear made by company that is smaller than my local neighborhood grocery store.
