New black mpc 1000 has new pads inside [Updated w/Pics]

mine came in a black box and I have dying/faulty pads

I used to work with a blue 1K a while back, but I own a black one now. A friend of mine has had his blue 1K for a couple of years, and the pads on that one is completely and utterly **** up. I've never experienced any trouble with the pads on my black 1K tho!

Im not sure if its just the hype thats getting to me or whatever, but I think the new pads is more comfertable, softer and more responsive.

I have the old MPC1K the one that came in the blue box. I bought it well over a year now from Guitar Center. I am also under the Performance Gurantee warranty for two years. Recently I was at GC and saw the MPC1K with the new black box. (Must be the new pads) or is it?

Does anybody know If I can get a replacement for the new one with the new pads? Or do I have to sabotage my old one to get a replacement?

Does anybody work at Guitar Center or is famaliar with their PG cause I'm not too sure how their PG warranty works. I know I should of waited but didn't know Akai was going to do this. Can somebody help me out. Please.

Seriously, I'm thinking about sabotaging my MPC1k for the new pads. What do you guys think?

just got mine at guitar center. has the 21 k1 serial number, and seems like i have the new pads. i have not opened up the top yet, but i can lift the corner of the rubber out and moving a pad moves the other pads along with it. im pretty convinced these are the new style. yipee!

you DEFINITELY have the new pads... no need to open it.

i'm glad GC is finally stocking the newer ones... they've only had the older model on sale the last few times i've gone.... pretty soon, the newer pads should be the only version available... finally.

Ive been to GC and seen both the old and new mpc 1000 in stock. And I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to sell an old one as a so-called "deal".

Recently I took delivery of my MPC 1000 in Germany and checked it out for a couble of days. It has the 21 k1 serial number, black box, 128mb card and the new pads. I can lift up the rubber lip at the corner pads, they feel soft and I can squeeze in the corners of each one, all that is not possible with the old ones or? From what I read is that the old ones more feel like hard eraser rubbers. Only thing is that they have a certain threshold before they register a hit. But beyond that threshold they track pretty accurate the velocity levels from low to high although I set up a high sensitivity and curve B.

I cant remember which OS was on it, I guess 2.10 but I immedently put free JJ os 3.08 on it. Data corruption while saving is nothing I want to deal with!

It suffers from the mysterious occasional occuring pop and clicks which seems to be related to USB activity as some on the forum mentioned. It even seems that the whole machine is a little bit upset with USB connected, even without being mounted. The timing seems to suffers in general, at least some stereo samples have some phasing problems (read they change their position) which they dont do with USB unplugged. Its sufficient to unplug the cable at the computer so the socket at the MPC is not overstressed as I need often the connection to the computer.

regarding the threshold- further jj upgrades allow you to correct the threshold so your pads register a hit w/ less force

about the usb,it really sounds like a grounding issue no? it's weird, i have heard that before but w/ no answer that i remember. maybe someone else will help you with that.

I got one in the black box with 128MB CF BK JAN, (21)K1 serial... but old pads! I'm spewing... I bought it from a Canadian company and its under warranty, but I live in NZ. Can I return it under the warranty and ask the store to replace it for one with the new pads, or am I stuck with these ones that will probably break?

so i'm thinking of selling my 2000xl and grabbing a 1k. i broke it down money and feature wise to try and determine which would be the best route. i have come to the conclusion that it's better to buy a used 1k and do all the pad replacement and upgrades yourself than to purchase a brand new one. i don't understand this. i love akai but damn! anyway, here's what i came up with. let me know what you think.

A - upgrade my xl with the 8-output expansion, effects card, and external hard drive. i already have a multi cardreader installed.

B - buy a used 1k off of ebay, upgrade pads, possibly memory, and get the new JJ o.s.

or
C - order a brand new 1k with warranty and hope that i get one with the new pads. then upgrade memory, buy JJ o.s., and internal hard drive.

option A would run me around $500 and i would still have an excellent mpc, but i need something more compact and portable. i've used a 1k and really liked it.

option B is what i'm leaning towards because for $800 and a little bit of labor, i could have a better than new 1k. that's not including the hard drive install which would make the overall total around $950. i have enough electronics knowledge to change out the pads and install a hard drive, so it seems to be the way to go.

option C is $1000 + memory upgrade, JJ o.s., hard drive, warranty, and the possibility of old faulty pads. doesn't seem worth it to me.

buy used, dude. just make sure all the fundamentals work. if a couple push-buttons are shoddy, don't worry those tact switches are available by the hundred for like 5 bucks from this dude in hong kong on ebay (and they work, i've tried them). if the rotary encoder is wack, haggle if you can or just use it to get lower bids. basically, replacing parts on any mpc is very very easy.

Hey people!

Got lost in all the post and wanted to confirm how to know if i got new pads with the mpc i bought 2 weeks ago.

I do have the black box version with the 128mb card and the 21(k1) serial, and, when moving a pad around, some of the surrounding pads move with, and the corners of the pads are soft and center stiffer.

Now, im wondering if these are the new pads. I do get issue where i would get "double trigger" from the pads, insnt this a symptom of the old pads?

i felt a display 1000 at guitar center and the pads were clearly the old ones - they were extremely stiff, wouldnt budge from left to right if you moved them, and you couldnt lift the rubber off at all. id say u probably have the new pads.

would you say this model has new pads??
