My MPC1000 got some buttons broken whilst it was going through the airport... the buttons on the right, not the pads. I called Akai and they told me their official repair place in the UK so I took it there. They have had it well over 2 months apparently waiting for parts.

Does anyone have any good ideas what I can do?
They are really uncommunicative and unfriendly.
It's not a warranty repair, I am paying for it.

I will be in Tokyo next month, maybe there is somewhere I can get spare parts or take it to be fixed there?

It's starting to look like I have to buy a new MPC just because a couple of the buttons are broken, which is ridiculous... but it's useless without a record button etc.

a little too late to ask, now that you've already sent off your MPC for what amounts to 30 minutes of work and less than 20 cents worth of repairs...

try to get it back and solder in new tact switches yourself
don't send an mpc to get repaired unless you absolutely have to, or else this can happen

The point is that nobody in the UK has the tact swtiches. Otherwise I would do it myself. Akai UK doesn't have the pasrts. You have to send it to their official guys and they can order the spares from America or somewhere.

I could go and get it back today but it would still be broken and I still wouldn't have the parts to fix it myself.

That's why I'm on here asking for help.
Maybe somebody in the UK or Japan or really anywhere in the world can sell me spares?

I have read around here that getting parts in the UK is a long drawn out process..... Since you already sent it out, just wait it out... Buying a new one seems a bit extreme, but hey, you could always buy the new one and sell the old one once it comes in.

Nym wrote:yo, ebay

these are the parts:

The link is broken now, but anyone examining the url to get the specifics of the switches need to be aware that the 4,5 by 4,5 mm switches are to small. I ordered these from the dealer Nym linked to and they simply do not fit.
In another thread Nym links to what seems more correct, 6 by 6 mm switches, 5 mm in height. Go for these instead.

thanks for the correction, hopefully (probably) it was a cheap mistake. you could likely just swing them back on ebay with the same description and get them sold for the same amount. i've had to go search for the link a bunch of times, i must have grabbed the wrong one in this case
